Interesting Facts
Jean Laporte founded L'Artisan Parfumeur in Paris in 1976. The name says it all: long before the niche boom since the beginning of the third millennium, L'Artisan Parfumeur recalled the craftsmanship of perfumery and broke new and at the same time old olfactory ground beyond the fashion waves. And with this, L'Artisan Parfumeur itself now set the starting points for fashion waves. The very first fragrance developed, "Mûre et Musc" (focused on a few ingredients: blackberry and musk), set a milestone and sold immensely well.

Many soliflors and fragrances focused on one theme, one fragrance melody, established the reputation of the house, which deliberately avoided multi-compositions and contracted great perfumers to follow this straightforward, artisanal fragrance policy (Michel Almairac, Evelyne Boulanger, Bertrand Duchaufour, Jean-Claude Ellena, Olivia Giacobetti and Anne Flipo).

In 1988, Laporte, the founder, left the house to go one step further towards tradition and a return to the craft. He founded Maître Parfumeur et Gantier, which resurrected a way of making perfume that is no longer present, in opulent-luxurious salons as it was in the 19th century.

L'Artisan Parfumeur, now firmly established on the market as a reference brand for quality perfume in the niche sector, celebrated further successes. It was sold to a U.S. holding company in 2003, but continues to operate according to Laporte's proven concept.
