Damp Wuff on Cheese Cream...
Oh my! The first comment on this fragrance... okay. Please remember that fragrances develop differently for everyone! So, don’t let that hold you back...
Well then. Since I am currently looking for a nice, feminine, citrus fragrance, I got Tarte au Citron by Laura Mercier. Right after it arrived today, I excitedly and hopefully applied it, searching for the perfect citrus note. After spraying, lemon is immediately present, along with gentle bergamot, with a creamy, slightly sour cream cheese note. I have the association of cheesecake with a strong lemon aroma, but somehow, unfortunately, it feels a bit artificial - and at the same time, there is a strange smell that resonates alongside it, the opposite of zesty, hardly describable, somewhat dull. Perhaps the anise? Hmm. In any case, I am close to gagging. To everyone who doesn’t know what that is: it’s the immediate precursor to productive gagging. I have thought long about what this smell is comparable to. It’s hard to name, in my mind’s eye, I am sitting in a café, dressed in an old-fashioned silky ruffled gown and a white hat with a wide brim, and in front of me is this cheese cream cake with a crumbly, vanilla cookie base. Just a moment ago, the weather was nice, but unfortunately, it has started to drizzle, and sitting next to me is a damp dog, hoping for scraps. The cake could be so delicious, but the wafts of this wet fur - brrr! - ruin the appetite. Over time, the pup moves away, understanding that he won’t get any of the cake, but leaves behind a lasting memory as thanks.
My overall association: cheese cream with a wet dog.
A bright fragrance, gourmand, but unfortunately for me, with a factor of disgust. What a shame.
The sillage seems rather weak to me. I didn’t want to test the longevity - a toast to the tried and true, mysteriously functioning metal soap...
