Subtle, sexy, mature
Ah, what a wonderful fragrance, a feast for my nose and a bittersweet reminder of times when scents still embodied the ideal of a self-assured, self-determined, serious, and mature woman, rather than that of a sugary, self-centered girl wanting to remain forever childlike.
Like many fragrances from this period, it initially unfolds with a herbaceous green note that has a slight edge, reserved, not too fresh, with a hint of delicate bitterness and melancholy. Alongside it is the cool sparkle of a crystal-clear hyacinth and a gentle touch of spice. It is beautiful and unique, and just a tiny bit nostalgic, in the timeless way of ageless classics.
By the way, the top note initially proves to be unexpectedly quiet; I have, which I usually wouldn’t do, sprayed it twice to perceive it in a bit more detail.
Transitioning to the heart note, I note: “Clear glass flowers,” without any noteworthy sweetness, a dense, tightly woven floral carpet now blooms. Not unfriendly, yet still reserved, but it hints that something could still develop, as it becomes a bit softer, a suggestion of a smile, so to speak. At the same time, it seems to increase in projection: I can now perceive it on myself without having to bring my wrist directly to my nose, who would have thought?
Very slowly, the fragrance continues to change; after perhaps an hour and a half, a hint of sweetness is now present, dosed with the sharpest of fingers, along with a delicate creaminess: The fragrance is truly smiling now, and I could swear it has tiny laugh lines around its eyes.
By this point, I have already liked the fragrance very much (so much, in fact, that I have already peeked on eBay) but then it happens, the unexpected, it’s magic: Megara begins to coo. What an enveloping, captivating base note! A soft, sensual, subtly sweet skin scent with gentle honey spice, velvety musk (with an old gold shimmer), and an enchanting sandalwood note. I am thrilled and would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Sebastian for the more than generous sample.
I find Megara to be excellently balanced, subtle, ethereal, with the finest mesh pattern, controlled, rather understated yet relaxedly self-assured. In every phase. This relaxed self-evidence makes it extremely elegant and effortless; it would simply always fit: in a business setting as well as at the theater and during a Sunday stroll. And especially on a date (timing is key here).
