Paul Vacher's great legacy

I couldn't wait any longer for the "Vetyver 2015" to finally be available in our region. Due to my current moving stress, my husband and I decided to treat ourselves a bit over the weekend and traveled from Friday to Sunday to my cousin in Paris. At Colette, I also picked up "Cuir" and "Aesthete" along with "Vetyver"...

But first, let's talk about Vetyver. In the early 1980s, I really enjoyed the original version of Vetyver, which was then called "Eau de Vetyver." This fragrance was a little special for me as a young person because no one I knew wore it…. Vetiver by Guerlain was in the bathroom of one or another father in my circle of friends and was rather dismissed by us youngsters as an old man's scent. I received "Eau de Vetyver" from my grandmother back then from the in-house drugstore, first as an aftershave and later also as EDT, so I would smell decent when I visited her and not like the heavy stuff I always wore… Back then, it was mainly Jules, Macassar, and Patou Pour Homme.

Eau de Vetyver was great, and I liked it a lot in the warmer seasons; at some point, it disappeared, and no other vetiver could provide me with a suitable substitute for many years.

All the more, I was looking forward to the relaunch of Vetyver this year, and lo and behold, the great legacy of the brand's former creative mind, Paul Vacher, is once again perfectly represented.

The fragrance has only been slightly altered; it is a bit softer than before and radiates even more elegance and nobility than the old version did. The opening is refreshingly citrusy and spicy. In the base, this freshness continues and becomes somewhat Mediterranean-herbaceous. The vetiver begins to unfold here and adds a bit more spice to the fragrance. The base is softly woody and powdery, which was somewhat different in the old version. Here, tonka and musk dominated and provided a bit more sweetness.

Another great Le Galion classic in a new guise, highly recommended for all vetiver lovers.
The longevity of the fragrance lasts about 7 hours for me, and the sillage is rather subtle and close to the skin.

Spannend.
