Less than the sum of its parts
This is inoffensive and, for a very brief time, smells pretty nice. That being said, it is a step backwards for Le Labo (based on what I’ve come to love about the house). This borrows a lot from Santal 33 and Gaiac 10, but doesn’t really improve upon them in any way… somehow, this is less than the sum of its parts. Very disappointed with the lack of projection ; I enjoy intimate scents, but I don’t want them to be so intimate that even I can’t tell if I’m wearing something. I feel as if the priority here was to produce a scent with an easy, non-divisive opening that would leave a pleasant first impression and drive purchases. If you are disappointed by this, do a spritz of Santal 33 and a few of gaiac 10 and you will have a similar and likely superior result.

A Ballerina in the Rabbit Hutch
Southern France, in the attic of Auguste Renoir's

Late summer rays fall through dusty beams. A blind mirror awakens: YOU written in capital letters with lipstick. A ballerina twirls in her lilac-green tutu. A pirouette dance in pianissimo. Hay swirls up, revealing warm pencil shavings - relics of Renoir's sketches on silk paper
***
I have a weakness for powdery violet or iris scents. Perhaps because they often evoke positive memories for me - as long as no ambroxan interferes (but that's another topic). When I first sprayed Violette 30 on my wrist, I suddenly found myself back at my grandmother's kitchen table: the little red cosmetic pouch was open in front of her as she dabbed a bit of blush on her cheeks. At the beginning, I smell a very delicate cosmetic note that is by no means stale or musty.
But then my memory photo in powdery nude tones gets green streaks, as a completely unexpected bitter green hay note briefly brings tears to my eyes. Perhaps my violet-powdered nose is a bit too sensitive (or inexperienced) - others might perceive a delicate herbal meadow. For me, however, this note skims just barely past the rabbit hutch.
Fortunately, the scent calms down very quickly, so that I slowly but surely reach this olfactory mountain meadow - light-footed like a ballerina. Upon arriving at the top, I notice that the top and heart notes have rushed past me like a pirouette swirl.
I sit down on a wooden bench. On the backrest, a freshly carved heart: "Guajak+Cedar" written in pencil. I suspect that cedar is the one in charge in this relationship. No smoke in sight, only sweet, cotton-soft clouds of musk float by, two or three - perhaps the 30th secret scent note?
The scent becomes so quiet that one could almost use it as a sleep aid. And so I close my tired eyes and remember the word that stood in the mirror: YOU. Perhaps it is precisely this quiet, woody skin scent tone that vaguely reminds me of Glossier You - only greener and somehow more ozonic.
Le Labo describes Violette 30 as familiar and unknown at the same time. To be honest? They hit the mark: a sunlit boudoir, a consciousness-expanding moment in the rabbit hutch, a delicate green pirouette dance near the tree line - and all of it in fast forward.
And how much does such a lilac-green tutu cost? Well. Let's put it this way: Here we are again with Renoir.

The brief for this fragrance: Create Another Gaiac 10.

An initial whiff of sandalwood, then fades very quickly into a matte powdery lipsticky floral. Very poor performance, overall not great.

It smells like a child of Gaiac 10 and Escentric 01.

NO on paper, almost NOTHING on the skin?! - BUT then a memory of Ambrette 9, later a hint of Gaiac 10 - Hello my signature

Hello, I'm Violette. I haven't reinvented the wheel, but I'm marketed that way.
The violet note is known from Blanche (Byredo).

Carrot seed iris dust on a cedar shavings idea. More of a pillow scent with a bishop's guaiac finish.
