Reminder
Warning, my first comment in english ;-)

It is an experience.
This smell is so unusual that there is a great gap between liking and rejection. In german forum there are most enthusiasts.

The first impression was more dominantly curry, followed by creamy tender spices immediately.
So many vacation memories get awake. It already begins at the name. Oriental Lumpur could be the name of a hotel in Indonesia just the same well.
It smells like Sandalwood. I am in the entrance area of the hotel after great heat and even bigger atmospheric humidity in Sri Lanka or also directly at the hotel bar in a late afternoon. The smells are similar there.
Patchouli and the vanilla creep in; am I strolling just with my husband through little lanes in Singapore? Could be good. My husband has just sniffed at me. The smell is too 'strong', too tasty for him. He was immediately reminded of temple visits with joss sticks.

I get wanderlust again.
But already alone the memories are comforting and never pass.
With this smell the memories return.
My budget for the next weeks is exhausted. But there is still enough place on the list of the wishes. I just have discovered, that Oriental Lumpur isn't traded so high-pricedly at all . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . !

Dry & Spicy!
This fragrance is spicy, VERY SPICY! On the verge of being bland & uninteresting but there is a tad & I do mean a TAD bit of sweetness tucked somewhere in all of that concoction. It is also VERY DRY! I had a full bottle that a dear friend of mine gifted me but I hardly wore it & when I did it was around the house & it did not mix well with my skin chemistry, I seemed to have smelled of BO! Longevity is decent for that of an EDT, projection is average.

I don't mind skank ( in a good way & i'm talking about you civet ;). but this is just disturbing to my nose. I sold my bottle after trying to adjust after 5 wearings. NO THANK YOU!

Exotic Mud?
A curry is a traditional dish in Indian cuisine, best described as a heavily spiced vegetable stew with sauce. Its home is South India. Those who can afford it there and are not hindered by their caste affiliation may also add meat or fish.

What we in the West know as curry, however, is a spice blend, and the term 'Indian curry powder' can be a bit misleading, as Indian housewives or cooks neither use it nor associate it with the term curry. Rather, the occupying army in the colony of British India felt compelled to provide their local auxiliaries with such a pre-mixed powder that tasted somewhat like a Garam Masala or similar. The British brought it back to the island, and thus it spread in Europe.

The main ingredients of (German) curry powder are cumin (seeds), fenugreek (seeds), turmeric (rhizome), and chili peppers. Additionally, ingredients such as ginger, fennel, celery, cloves, nutmeg, and salt may be added.

'Curry,' more precisely 'Kari,' has another meaning in India: the Kari tree grows there. Its leaves, the Kari leaves, are freshly picked and used as a spice for a variety of dishes, including rice, fresh cheese, legumes, as well as vegetable and meat dishes. In Germany, where they are referred to as curry leaves, I have only found them dried so far. However, they have long lost their scent and flavor through drying, and therefore it would be pointless to use them as an ingredient for curry powder.

However, we also have a curry leaf oil that is obtained through distillation from the leaves. Its scent is fresh, green, aromatic, herbal, and peppery, with a musky undertone. This essential oil or the corresponding absolute could have been used in Oriental Lumpur, while curry powder as a raw material for fragrance production has hardly made an appearance so far.

'Lumpur' is usually translated as 'mud' online, but this delightful scent from the world of mermaids (Les Néréides) would be wronged by that. 'Oriental blend' might be more appropriate. That OL is a charming oriental is beyond doubt. Based on the advertised fragrance notes, OL belongs, on one hand, to the Amber Orientals (Jicky, Emeraude, Habanita, Shalimar, Vol de Nuit, Joop!, Samsara) through the sandalwood-patchouli-vanilla accord, while on the other hand, due to saffron, curry leaves, and nutmeg, it also belongs to the Spicy Orientals (like Youth Dew, Opium, Cinnabar, Coco, or Jungle Elephant).

However, one should not conclude from the mentioned examples that OL is a pure or typical women's fragrance. Rather, it is indeed a unisex product suitable for men as well. This is ensured by the exotic spices, which in this combination are probably unique: the finely bitter saffron, the also masculine nutmeg, and especially the curry leaves with their herbal-green freshness. Together, they form a counterbalance to the ambratic accord, and the balanced double structure leads to an excellently blended, almost monolithic result.

As always, the balance of the contrasting individual notes naturally depends on the respective skin chemistry. For me, OL does not have the vanilla sweetness that I always react to negatively, and it is the first and so far only spice-focused perfume that I enjoy wearing myself. Nevertheless, when I recall the comments in which women write about men's fragrances, I can well imagine that many women would appreciate it if their beloved wore Oriental Lumpur.

sensitive Oriental
I always hesitate a bit with oriental fragrances. Too much 1001 Nights, too many Christmas spices, too heavy, too sweet, and just too much of everything.

Not so with Oriental Lumpur. This is a beautiful, fine, and light oriental. Yes, such a thing exists. The spices are more pale yellow than brown-golden, and even patchouli appears bright in Oriental Lumpur. It is very pleasant for me that neither too much cinnamon, cardamom, nor cloves trigger that otherwise typical oriental feeling. The spices here are much more subtle.

For me, the fragrance is dominated by an elegant, warm powdery note that allows the interesting touch of spices from the heart note to glide into the base. Patchouli prevents Oriental Lumpur from slipping into harmlessness, and thus a beautiful, delicate fluidity unfolds.

The term "Oriental" in the name may evoke erotic harem scenes or the loud hustle and bustle of a bazaar for some, but I rather envision the transparent, fine veils that Scheherazade might have worn with this fragrance.

I can definitely imagine Oriental Lumpur as a daytime scent in winter. Elegant and warm, but not overloaded. It can also be used as an evening fragrance, but there are other calibers from Parfumos that come to mind, which I do not mean in a derogatory way.

Curry Me Up
As Mariah Curry aptly sings, in a duo with Pat Middler and Pat Schuli; her tour is always accompanied by Dreamlover MC Sandelholz and Heartbreaker DJ Amber, Milli Vanilli always on playback and the saffron duo drums itself into ecstasy.

The perfume is a contradiction in itself. It smells chaotic of peppered, candied fairground apples, mashed potatoes and brittle or also goulash with chocolate sauce.

Genius delicious!

I've had it for a long time and still find it beautiful. Spices as far as the nose can smell. Just a little sweet, dry, very special.

The combination of saffron, cinnamon, and patchouli is already too much on its own, but then adding more spices, resins, and vanilla? Very aromatic and dense!

Delicately sweet, fresh-spicy oriental with a slight sharpness from powdery sandalwood/patchouli and an amber balsamic base. No kitchen/curry. Lovely!

Very spicy, sweet, and oriental.
Despite its heaviness, it has a certain underlying freshness.
Golden amber comes in at the base.

You little rascal!
You mixed the mulled wine with Mama's amber-vanilla again,
and sprayed Dad's aftershave all over the kitchen...!!!

Cellar-musty retro patchouli entwined with Western-oriental notes (notably cinnamon and vanilla). Pleasant scent, but somewhat uneven and dull.

Opening: Great saffron! Then unfortunately too dominant patchouli. The sillage is too overpowering for me. But it deserves a long-term test. To be continued.

Unfortunately, it only smells like pepper on me, and that won't go away. What a shame. Sadly, no.
