It happened on that Saturday evening. The training plan called for heavy leg workouts. Actually, the worst time to burden the nervous system with a new, unfamiliar stimulus. However, I occasionally use the gym to test fresh scents for their longevity while sweating in anticipation of summer. A concentrated testing environment, if you will.
While rummaging through my small collection of samples, I came across "Imagination | Louis Vuitton." I remembered that I didn't like the tea note at all during the initial test a few weeks prior. Contrary to my first impression, I decided to give Imagination a chance and, at the very least, get the sample out of the way.
As many have already described, the fragrance starts off very clean and fresh. Solid, but not significantly better than other fresh scents.
So, I hopped on my bike and rode off. On the way to the gym, the magic of Chinese black tea happened. With every meter, this wonderful, non-intrusive tea scent unfolded more and more. In the locker room, it hit me completely: WOW!
The workout began, and anyone who has ever intensely trained their legs knows the state where you’re just fighting for what feels like survival. With every deep breath, that tea note came back again and again. I was almost convinced, if it weren't for the price tag.
But then came a fateful encounter; Jaques Cavallier-Belletrud himself spoke to me through a heavenly being!
I had just tried to muster my last strength at the calf machine when a blonde angel stepped out of the light, cautiously gesturing to get my attention. I looked up, saw her, and reflexively said, “I have two more sets” - the typical question you get asked in the gym. She waved it off and replied, “No, no - I just wanted to tell you that you smell really good.” “Fuck, now I have to buy the whole bottle,” I thought, and “Um, uh, thank you,” I said to her. After which she vanished into the light forever and was never seen again. To this day, I am unsure whether that really happened or if it was just due to the lack of blood in my brain.
In any case, I subsequently bought the 100-ml bottle and must say that I am somewhat disappointed. The full bottle cannot compare in the slightest to the sample. The tea is very noticeably missing here, which somehow takes away the magic of the fragrance. It remains a good, fresh soapy scent without that certain something. I will forever mourn this sample...
The question is, where did you get the sample from? ;)
I also had a "decant" that turned out to be an obvious dupe/fake after I ordered the original, including the original 2 ml sample from LV.
Depending on where the sample came from, it was either a different batch (unlikely) or a "more tea-scented" dupe that was sold to you as the real deal.
