A Surprise Hit

Years ago, Lush/Guerilla Perfumes used to sell a fragrance called All Good Things. It was my signature, the scent that I wore almost exclusively through 2016/17 whilst I studied at art school. It was discontinued shortly after, and I've been clinging on to the last few milliliters left at the bottom of the bottle since, only digging it out on very special occasions.

Out of all the scents from the Replica discovery kit, I wasn't expecting By The Fireplace to be much of a hit. I hadn't looked into the notes yet, but from the name I was expecting a cosy scent, perhaps a bit woody and warm with some tea notes.

When I sprayed it on, I could have cried. This is the closest thing that I've smelled to All Good Things in years - it could pass as a dupe. It's smokey, sweet, woody, a bit spicy, and has that exact "candyfloss and bonfires" element that made AGT so addicting to me in the first place. Breathing it in, it was uncanny how vividly it took me back to 2017 - we say that scent is closely tied to memory, and if there's anything that proves it for me, it is this. I can remember exact outfits that I wore to college, sitting at my desk and the faces that sat around me, carrying my sketchbooks down to the library... It made me quite emotional.

By The Bonfire is a sweet number - almost sugary - blissfully underlined by a beautiful spicy and smokey note. It's also incredibly long lasting, especially for one of the Replica scents (which I have found to be lacking in both projection and longevity). I sprayed this perfume shortly after waking up, and I am writing this review at the end of my day, after showering, and I can still smell it on my wrists.

For me, discovering this scent alone made the Replica discovery scent worth it. It's beautiful, nostalgic and long lasting, and will be a staple for me going forwards. I'm so glad to have finally found a replacement for my old signature.
