At Any Cost
Frankincense is such a polarizing substance that you either love it or hate it. The latter is often the case for those who associate it with negative clerical memories or simply for other, less understandable reasons. If you belong to this group, you might as well stop reading, because this is definitely not your fragrance.
For all others who are open to the topic or at least somewhat skeptical, Rocher Princier offers a little insider tip.
This is not just a simple frankincense scent, but an appealing Eau de Parfum that takes creative paths with mint and supporting aldehydes. In between, a timid apple note flits about, which does not seem unwelcome. Thus, a fresh, almost life-affirming start with absolutely bright nuances is guaranteed. The strong frankincense note reminds me of the intensity of the excellent Series 3: Incense line from Comme de Garçons. I personally like it more than very much!
Other ingredients may struggle to assert themselves due to the dominance of the gum resin, but here and there a mix of woody to spicy notes like cardamom, pepper, plus nutmeg, and later sandalwood and oak moss flashes through. Oud haters will be pleased: it is hardly perceptible. It’s just a pity that the elements from the top note fade away after a while and do not last forever - but at least!
Overall, Rocher Princier, which translates to "royal rock," feels very clean, cool, ethereal, and very vital. Almost as if one would not only want to exorcise the aforementioned Beelzebub but also cleanse and then decompose him completely.
Yes, frankincense has been considered a disinfectant since ancient times, which smells far more pleasant than anything else typically associated with it.
The only thing that slightly holds me back is the relatively high price. One has to weigh Rocher Princier against the Series 3 from Comme de Garçons personally.
