Synthetic Amber but not bad...

Absolutely made for every day. UNISEX!
Superb stuff even tho it is from COTY Paris.
The Amber is not that sweet, more a dry one on skin.
I get caramel and Oriental Herbs. Sadly a Synthetic smell too.
It feels so cosy wearing it on a rainy day. It feels a bit cheap crafted but it is not a total mess.

Good sillage and projection I get in the first hour.
After 3 hours it is nearly gone but it is a Splasher and not a Eau de Parfum so I can deal with that.

Purchased it in Spain. 300 ml for only 30 € was a must buy for me! Sadly it is discontinued. I wish a stronger Version would come out one day. Maybe add some oud. I a dreaming again. Sorry.

A truly lovely splash ...

Marc Jacobs Amber is an exercise in how to combine relatively heavy hitting notes so that they do not become loud or offensive. "Why bother?" some may cry, and to a certain extent I agree, were it not for the fleeting loveliness that assaults my nose upon applying this.

Amber 'autumn splash' is touted as a Spicy Oriental, and while the note pyramid may lead one to believe this, one usually connotes sillage monsters like L'Elephant and Cinnabar to that genre.
The Star Anise is first out of the gate, helped along by a bashful little Ginger and wisp of Cinnamon before an extremely quiet Lily briefly shows her face. Top into heart here is said and done in about 15 minutes, allowing the base notes to hold sway. Clean Ambergis combines beautifully with the remnants of the Lily while the Benzoin and Cashmeran help to subdue what otherwise may have been an intensely vanillic Tonka. The woody notes here help to 'unsweeten' the fragrance, creating an altogether more fresh Amber than the overall impression of them might suggest.
One would expect something as smooth and delightful as this not to have been produced at Coty, but it is (or was ... it's been discontinued) and doesn't suffer in the least for that fact. This venerable house has been around for a long time ... they should know what they are doing! I'd hazard a guess and say that this fragrance's discontinuation has something to do with IFRA's recently proposed ban on Cashmeran.
Marc Jacobs Amber is not going to break any records when it comes to sillage and longevity, which are both rather weak. One would do well, however, to remember that this is simply a cologne splash, meant for purposes of frequent invigoration and refreshment while smelling good at the same time. It's size and price point are commensurate with this idea :) ...

In my current hunt for the perfect 'cologne', I find Amber fun and easy to wear on a hot summer's day. It's not 'the one' ... but I'll enjoy my decant while it lasts.
