Less is more. Fabolous foody vanilla.

Montale´s Vanille Absolu is very far from understated elegance. Still, I somehow find it to be a very much less is more kind of vanilla. This is straight forward vanilla for vanilla lovers. You need to love the sweet, creamy and full bodied smell of vanilla, you need to love smelling like a vanilla cake fresh from the oven, as vanilla pods in your cupboard, all kinds of vanilla you can imagine actually, because that is what you get in Vanille Absolu. But, what is it not to love with vanilla? Kids will think you smell great, your teenagers will come home from school and -for a while at least- have a smile on their face when they see you and ask what you have baked and if you fancy some attention from your husband, Vanille Absolu will pretty much help you with that part to. Even dogs seems to like the smell of it, at least my dog does. If you don´t fancy that kind of attention from each and everyone, and if you hate vanilla in scents or can´t stand to smell eatible, then -of course- you have to stay away from Vanille Absolu.

I love it. :) And since Vanille Absolu is such a plain, easy going vanilla, it´s also good for layering with scents that occationally needs some sweetening and body. I can tell there is some cinnaomon and clove in it, but those notes plays a very small, but still important part, they underscore the different features of vanilla, from the sweetest thing to sexy smoke lingering in the base.

This IS a vanilla for vanilla lovers, nothing else. :)

A CSP Vanilla by Montale

Even though this has notes of cinnamon and clove, which I usually perceive as very autumnal and wintery, this is more of an all-year appropriate, even summery vanilla to my nose. It's interesting: I can clearly single out the clove, but it doesn't take the scent into spicy Christmas market territory. Vanilla is the main star here, and it's very bright, tropical, radiant and also a little custardy. It reminds me of the vanilla scents by Comptoir Sud Pacifique, which always have a summery, tropical vibe, too. There is even a slightly fruity undertone in this, even though there are no fruit notes listed.

This is a simple feel-good scent, nothing complex or groundbreaking. The biggest downside is that the first seconds smell of alcohol, which usually only happens with cheaper fragrances. But that is gone quickly and afterwards it's nice. I wouldn't add it to my collection, but I would enjoy to smell it somewhere.

A CSP vanilla with some weird synthetic and BO streaks

After the first few seconds of strong alcoolic vapors, I start getting a Comptoir Sud Pacifique kind of vanilla. Powdery, sweet, with that fruity undertone (even though there aren't any fruits listed). It's nice, but not full bottle worthy. There are better vanillas out there and even CSP has better prices than Montale's.

What's weird is that, at some point, I started getting a weird body odour waft coming up from my skin paired with some synthetic vibe and the powdery vanilla. This made for a really weird combo. I do not know if it's the spices that attempted to come out and failed (since I never detected them anywhere else), but that was really off-putting.

Anyways. Pretty generic and basic fragrances. There are cheaper and better alternatives to this one out there. It's a pass on this one.

Vanille Absolu is a thick, sugary vanilla sharpened up front by a slug of berries cooked down with a stick of cinnamon. Caramel adds tons of unwanted weight later on, thickening the cream to almost suffocating levels of dense. It is not the worst vanilla scent I have ever smelled, by far, but I also don't want to wear it. Something in it gives it a saccharine wax melt vibe that makes my mind flash on the word 'cheap' and that is enough to sink it for me. However, it smells amazing on my teenage son, so that steers it into neutral category.

straight sugary vanilla extract

At first snif, I thought i had a competitor to tihota at a better price. As it settled down, I got more of the synthetic scent here. I mostly get staight vanilla with a bit of bitterness, maybe from the spice? I'd say this could be used to layer to give some oomph or lasting power to another fragrance, but it lacks the sophistication or complexity of something like tihota for me.
