A masterpiece

This fragrance has been hiding in the stacked lineup of Montale but it is really awesome. The name is very true; just Dark Vanilla. Not overly sweet, but balanced. It dries down into a very pleasant leather (not very animalic).
Once you sniff it, you instantly get the classic Montale DNA and as with most of their releases, performance is very good as far as longevity and sillage are concerned.

It reminds me a little bit of Mancera Oud Vanille which is more woody and oudy than Dark Vanilla.

It leans masculine but I believe women can pull it off especially in cold winter days.

Is it ?

After reading the reviews of Dark vanilla, I had the impression that this would be a very manly scent, but I personally think that this is unisex fragrance. It has a very sweet and creamy vanilla that a woman could wear but it also has some dark notes that is very suitable for a man. Vanilla and spice and everything nice, if you don't own this, I think you should consider. A very nice Montale!

Seductive Skankiness

I am so glad to own a full bottle of this (I really need to stop blind-buying), it's such an underrated scent that does lean slightly feminine however doesn't matter at all!

It starts off somewhat earthy and very spicy with elements of sweetness and vanilla. There is a hint of patchouli that probably gives it that earthiness that gives it this animalic, dirtiness for the first few minutes.

The mid is where is begins to evolve more with an addition of suede becoming more evident, the patchouli also calms down and becomes unusually creamy with sandalwood.

The base is probably why I put myself through that animalic and dirty 'phases'. It becomes a seductive blend of vanilla, suede, patchouli and sandalwood. On my skin, this beast was still projecting (not as powerful but evident) and lasted roughly 14 hours altogether. If you can sample or smell this at any chance, please do so!

Ein Scharf-Orientalisches Kernkraftwerk

So mancher mag sich fragen, weshalb ich dieses Parfüm mit einem Kernkraftwerk vergleiche.

Die Antwort, welche auch Jeremy Fragrance schreien würde: POWER!

Der Duft sprüht nicht immer so gut auf. Das liegt wahrscheinlich an dem so hohen Duftöl-Anteil. Wenn man es dann aber geschafft hat, den Duft einige wenige Male aufzuspühen, entwickelt er sich auf folgende Weise:

Neben einigen Scharfe Noten, wie Safran, nehme ich eine unterliegende Note Leder war. Nach circa 30-45 Minuten nimmt die Schärfe ab und verschmilzt zu einem Ledrig-Süßen aber leicht synthetischen Duftbad. Diese Mischung hält sich in den Folgenden 12 Stunden gut. Wenn man aber noch 6 Stunden weiter geht, rieche ich am Ende nur noch süße Vanille und kein Leder mehr.

Alles in Allem ein Monster. Das Parfüm hält 20 Stunden auf meiner Haut und Wochen auf Kleidung. Ein Winter/Herbstduft eher für Dates oder zum Abschleppen geeignet.
Jedoch ist Dark Vanille definitiv einer der Kopfschmerz-Düfte, wenn man zu viel aufsprüht. Daher mit Vorsicht sprühen und sich den Grund des aufsprühens.

One of the better vanillas from Montale

I got a bunch of decants from Montale to try out every vanilla they have and sadly most disappointed me. Dark Vanilla is one of the few I like and would wear again. It's reminiscent of a Kayali fragrance with the heavy vanilla and amber, and you get some oud and spiciness coming through that makes this stand out. Like all Montale fragrances, it has strong silage and longevity.
I could see this as a nice evening/date night scent.
