The dark perfume from the vizier palace
("Al Qasr" means "The Palace" in Arab)
Unquestionably Oud Al Qasr is a brilliant oriental fragrance, a precious gem from the house of Nabeel, but black like the depths of the some human souls.
The name evokes palaces of viziers and sultans, with large golden halls, unimaginable treasures, romance stories of a thousand and one nights, and the love of Aladdin by his beautiful princess. Instead, it turns out to be the gloomy cave of Ali Baba and the forty thieves, dark as the bowels of the earth though full of radiant treasures.
The perfume is very dark in the first hour, and still quite somber after that. Is taht bad? Not for me, you may be sure!
The top notes wake up hard and blunt. Spice and wood notes linger in the air but, above all, there is a bittersweet and strong amber with oud accord that dominates the initial scent evolution. The environment becomes shadowed by the monstrous projection. You eager for some sweetness and smoothness that may ease up the swirling shadow that involves you.
After this long staggering opening, some flowery aromas sweetened by honey tame the black agression. However with this faint sweet floral light you get also some moss and dry green herbs that that retain some of the initial darkness. This struggle of senses remains active for over an hour. The sillage is extreme and the scent is easily projected up to 12 feet radius around you.
A sweet touch of cinnamon starts to grow within emerging earthy accords. However the initial strong and dominant ambery woody oud accord still lingers, circling around any newcomer note. It even seems that it gets a new vigor to establish the rules for the long drydown that follows. The cinnamon cuts off some of the reigning blackness. The dark entropy is rendered by a scent still complex, but clearer and deeply harmonious.
After the storm comes the bonanza. The troubled evolution calms doown and it begins one of the most beautiful drydowns I have ever experienced. The projection remains strong - at least four to six feet still - although tremendously alluring now.
Some earthiness, noble sweet woods, oud and cinnamon will ensure our pleasure for another eight to ten hours.
Let's look at the metrics for Nabeel Oud Al Qasr:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
- Scent opening: 8.0 (the scent is fantastic, but the initial rudeness can discourage the weaker hearts)
- Scent drydown: 10.0 (oriental perfection)
- Longevity: 9.5 ( easily 12 hours or more, with 3 sprays)
- Sillage: 9.5 (Fills a room during the first hour; the drydown begins with a 4~6 feet projection still; practical skin scent till the 12th~14th hour.
- Uniqueness: 9.0 (vaguely similar to a couple of oud fragrances, namely Nasomatto Black Afgano and Black Oud by LM Parfums, but unique in its darkness and great drydown)
- Versatility: 7.5 (Such an unique oriental fragrance cannot be a well of versatility; but provided you spray yourself one hour before attending any event, success is guaranteed)
- Wearability: 7.0 (high during Winter, cold Spring and Autumn. Avoid to use it in hot weather. It's a night scent).
- Compliments: 8.0 (as stated before, spray yourself one hour before joining anybody or attending any type of event; only then a shower of compliments will be bound to happen)
- Quality: 9.0 (the scent does not suggest being cheap or synthetic. It does smell expensive)
- Presentation: 7.5 (almost nice and discrete with a bottle wrapped in leather. Ugly wooden cap and nice sprayer. It comes with a fake leather pouch that does not serve any purpose)
- Price: 10.0 (100 ml non tester for £ 12.50 on sale + shipping)
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Average: 8.64 / 10.00
- between 7 and 8 =above average;
- between 8 and 9 = recomended;
- bigger than 9 = don't miss it;
Advice: It's not a "barnyard" oud type scent, but try it before you buy it if you are not familiar with very strong dark oud fragrances.
I recommend this fragrance to ALL oriental fragrance lovers. if you really like an oriental oud fragrance you don't even need to try it before buying it.
