Lemon electroshock for children
Oh man, i cannot believe this one is here, i cannot but review it... Well, let me tell you, Nenuco (we call it by the brand) is probably the most famous fragance in Spain. But think of it more like a toiliterie than a fine fragance (it comes in 1 litre bottles and you buy this at the supermarket) This brings a lot of memories...
As the label portrays, it is intended to be for children and babies, and, mind you, we were getting loads of it. I think now the formula is A LOT tamer and softer, but when i was a kid in the 80s, it wasn´t.
How did Nenuco feel to the nose of a five years old... a cannonball of lemon ,petitgrain and alcohol shot in your head, taking no prisoners. This juice is so sharp, so blinding sharp, and so high pitched, it would make your eyes water.
I remember my mother (and my dad too) like every other spanish mom, used to soak my hair, with nenuco (then part it to one side) before we were going somewhere. Extra dose if it was an important event. Of course after a bath i had to take a virtually second shower of nenuco. This would cause a traum to anybody, and here i am today, obsessed by perfume.
I firmly believe this is spanish parenting: children are literally numb and high on citrus notes, so they behave well at visits and church.
Maybe i am being too hard on it, and the problem was the ammount more than the formula... the truth is that i remember it with a lot of warmth and brings a smile... Nenuco is still a best seller, some adults i know still love it (i absolutely don´t) and is probably the first olfactory experiences of generations and generations of spanish men and women.
