Horses racing through a violet field

I know I'm not going to be part of the majority here, but to me, Gentry Jockey Club smells mostly of Violet. Precisely, Violet flavored "Anis de Flavigny" if you've ever eaten one.

Even if on my skin it's more a floral fragrance than a leathery one, it's a beautiful, animalistic violet. Sugary and powdery, but raw. As it dries down, the leathers comes through more and more ; as if I can feel the horse breathing down my neck. Suddenly I'm in the paddock, the sunset beaming through the dust and the hay. Warm and dusty wood, leather saddle, and a flowery field afar.

To me, it's almost a meditative leather, swaddled in a sweet bouquet.

You wear it, and suddenly you feel like sitting in the stands of a racetrack, admiring the elegant stature of thoroughbred horses. Very dandy, it has that waxed and smoky leather effect, green, aromatic: in short, nothing but qualities. The vetiver is especially beautiful in this fragrance; it doesn’t overpower anything, on the contrary, it’s a key pillar. For a fleeting moment, I thought I smelled a hint of violet at the top, which disappeared almost immediately.
A scent for the privileged but oh, what class!

Flower Beds at the Jockey Club

Well, I am truly not a horse racing fan and do not have the scent of a jockey club directly in my nose. But I can very well understand why the perfume house Oriza L. Legrand, which I greatly appreciate, associates this composition with horse racing. Three fragrance notes primarily fluctuate around each other in varying concentrations... the floral notes of the flower beds at the jockey club... the leather of the saddles... the disturbed dark earth in the form of robust, smoky vetiver, through which a whiff of cigar smoke from a grizzled bookmaker occasionally wafts... This creates very beautiful images - and yet, in its interplay, it is indeed an enormously independent but also quite unwieldy and somewhat disharmonious affair.

The leather and vetiver notes are - especially towards the end of the fragrance experience - of a beautiful, dark robustness. However, what my skin cannot handle at all is a "flower stem note," which reminds me of freshly cut flower stems and continuously overlays the scent with a slightly sour layer that I can hardly bear. So far, I have not found a floral fragrance that my skin truly likes, and even the beautiful leather and vetiver components in "Gentry Jockey Club" cannot make up for this shortcoming.

It's a pity, as an anglophile fragrance lover, I would have liked "Gentry Jockey Club" and have made a considerable effort to obtain a sample of the latest from Oriza L. Legrand. Thanks to an incredibly kind offer from Parfuma Salander, I was finally able to try it. Even though it does not harmonize with my skin, it is a typically Legrand, finely crafted, very characteristic fragrance that could appeal to lovers of olfactory challenges. There is certainly no complaint about lack of longevity and sillage!
