The Sandal Tree, a comforter of the soul
The sandal water is like a cologne with sandalwood instead of citrus. The sandal note has nothing of the terpentine-like oily spiciness and soapiness that the wood and its essence often radiate. The smell is familiar to me from Asian carving workshops for temple sculptures and from the smoking powders in devotional shops, where certainly only genuine and best quality is sold.
The scent of sandal water is not a bit oriental, but fresh and soft. It is not at all simple, but a fine composition. Lightly citric: probably lemon grass, cubeb pepper (Litsea cubeba) or Sichuan pepper. Clearly floral: certainly rose geranium. Finely spicy: possibly laurel. Somewhat balsamic resinous and possibly with a little Hinoki wood, that would suit the light and at the same time warm character of this cologne.
Shelf life and Sillage correspond to a Cologne. The sandal water is a beautiful refreshment for mind and soul in the cold season, unobtrusive and relaxing. Unique, definitely unisex and warmly recommended against the coming winter blues!
