A back and forth... ends in a summer weapon
How many times did I want to part with this fragrance and then not? How often was I unsure whether it was really worth keeping? The answer to these questions is - very often.
PITY!
I hope the fragrance forgives me for comparing it to others too often and wanting to get rid of it instead of appreciating its natural beauty. It's similar to dating - individual beauty is easily lost through too many excessive comparisons and a suggested oversupply. But if you fully embrace it, you learn to appreciate many little things that others simply don't have!
Riviera Verbena begins naturally and refreshingly with an accord that could not be more summery. In my opinion, mint and lemon are the main protagonists here, surrounded by a wonderful green backdrop. You could say that the magic really does come from the opening, as this is definitely the star of the show.
But does that imply that the fragrance becomes boring in the drydown? That depends on how you think! Personally, I say - no. Not every fragrance needs a scent that goes around 10 corners and bends 100 times. That's simply not what this fragrance is made for.
Although the really lively opening is gone, a subtle dose of calone and above all vetiver keeps it interesting for me throughout. The nice thing here is that the calone is not too strong, unlike in Kenzo Homme (2022) Eau de Parfum, for example, which also has a completely different DNA and is in no way comparable to Riviera Verbena!
The same goes for vetiver. This in combination with the calone is so beautifully refreshing. We are not dealing here with a brutally smoky vetiver a la Sultan Vetiver, but with the pleasant green facet of this exotic grass.
Overall, Riviera Verbena paints a picture for me. It is a picture of calm, balance and relaxation in exciting circumstances. It cools the air around the wearer and almost conveys a vacation feeling. The aquatic green aura here really gives the feeling of walking on the French Riviera, where the hot rays of the sun are made pleasant by a cool sea breeze, and you can always smell the surrounding lush meadows.
And it does this with flying colors! The H/S on my skin is also surprisingly good for an EDT, which is also primarily free of synthetic ingredients. I can easily manage 7-8 hours with a very acceptable projection throughout the day.
Do other fragrances do something similar? Sure. Do I have some that do something similar in my collection? Definitely.
But similar is not the same thing. The way in which Riviera Verbena accompanies me throughout the day is unique and an art, just like all of Patricia de Nicolai's creations!
