Simply Yum
Gourmands always spell out pink marshmallow, caramel goo, tutti fruity & company right?
Wrong.
Here is one for grown ups, with its austere packaging and serious, albeit exotic name.
Handy if you want to indulge in a guilty secret, as it camouflages its earthly delights to perfection.

So, how does it smell?
Well, could have fooled me that it was a spicy amber to start with.
Great, but not that unusual.
Pay attention and a rich and opulent date note soon emerges from the depth of an ancient terracotta pot.
Another one where less is more.
The accord is simply beautiful, moreish, and simply delectable.

This is the sticky date pudding of the fragrance world, kept in check from turning too sweet by a raw clay-like edge.
Soft, conforming, and classy.

Languid Oriental Semi-Gourmand
Scentrack
Sting – Desert Rose

Name Dzhari stands for the Libyan desert wind (please do notice the resemblance with Chergui, a Maroccan desert wind).

Opening of Dzhari is very interesting. Semi-gourmand sweet date notes, a plum compote with cinnamon vibe and characteristic Tonka bean are juxtaposed to dark, earthy and almost peaty accord. I really like the clash of notes which gives something daring to this fragrance. Unfortunately, this soil accord is short lived, and after 10-15 minutes on my skin is virtually gone. I was left only with one dimensional date/plum compote, accompanied by pale Tonka and some faint signs of cedar in the background. That’s it, just a shadowy sweet notes lingering. Nice idea, but needs more “muscles”.

Rating: 5/10

In a Candy Store in Sweden
"2 x 3 makes 4
Widdewiddewitt and three makes nine!!
I make the world
Widdewidde as I like it

...

Hey - Pippi Longstocking
trallari trallahey tralla hoppsasa
Hey - Pippi Longstocking,
she does what she likes."

Come Thommy and Annika, I have a little gold coin, we’re going to Mrs. Süsseson-Licorice. There are big glass jars full of candies, gummy bears, candy canes, and licorice in so many colors that your eyes overflow.

(Door opens, the little bell rings)

Mmhh, it smells so good here! This morning, Mrs. Süsseson's husband must have made herbal candies in the back room.

But now a new scent comes to my nose, like clouds quickly driven away by the wind, I now smell licorice. Yaaahhh, mmhh, licorice, licorice, licorice ... Mr. Süsseson must be very busy ...

I think they spray something addictive on the sweets, so they smell so good and you buy many kilos.

So ladies and gentlemen, if your beloved is into licorice, then go for Dzhari, which has nothing to do with India or saris at all. :-)

cozy and boozy - Delicious!
50-50 male-female with this scent? Interesting! When I received the samples from the lovely Christiane from Oldenburg back then, this one caught my attention first. I just found it awesome, but for me, it was clearly a men's fragrance. It's boozy-liqueur-like, brings gourmand notes with it, but clearly screams "I am a man" to me. So I gave the sample to my better half, who also thought it was brilliant (and I first on him ;))

That's when Dzhari was allowed to move in with us. I don't have that typical Christmas market association here. For me, Dzhari is neither more nor less sweet than many other classic men's fragrances. The sweetness adds a bit of pep, as the scent remains consistently alcoholic-sweet, a bit like Nasomatto's Absinth, which I also don't see on myself (or any other woman). What I particularly like about Dzhari is the cozy-soft base. It smells like cuddling, enjoying, just delicious!

And it lasts and lasts and lasts. Easily 8 to 10 hours! Sillage is present but doesn't hit you in the face. A clear 9 for me.

English Plum Pudding
Are you also looking forward to the culinary Christmas season, to mulled wine, cookies, and gingerbread? And do you dread what that will leave on the scale?
Fear not, here comes relief.
With Dzhari, we once again have the opportunity to indulge in the sumptuous delights of the Christmas season without consuming a single calorie.

The ingredients already hint at it:
Dates, almond-like tonka, we are served a juicy, fruity dessert that clearly fits the winter season.

At first, I thought the idea behind Dzhari was a modest German fruitcake from the Nuremberg Christkindlmarkt, but the strong alcoholic note turns it into a veritable, classic Old English Plum Pudding. While it is usually robustly treated with rum, the heavy Malaga wine in Dzhari does not miss its mark.

What the clay does in the pudding, only the Three Wise Men know, who, following the star on their journey, may have also visited the realm of the Queen of Sheba and admired the clay structures of Sanaa.
Clay may be the component that gives Dzhari its gentle, calm earthiness and rich languor.

A heavy, sweet oriental that you must keep sniffing or tasting, while blissfully rolling your eyes.

Sweet dates on earthy ground bring back memories of a trip to Tunisia in the 80s, visiting an oasis. Lovely!

Well, I immediately think of Maggi when I smell this. Probably wine-soaked dates plus x. I'm out.

The moon has fallen asleep tipsy,
seduced by the date.
Shallow, foggy presence.
Smooth, full but still very calm.

Dates and wine but overall a bit undefined. The tester family M is quite confused and asks what this is supposed to be. Okay.

Malaga wine in a wooden barrel, walnuts stuffed in dates dried over wood smoke - delicious without being too sweet, subtle, bitter sweetness.

The Malaga wine suits you well, dear Date. Less sweet than expected, but rather fine-spiced with a few degrees in the body. Cheers!

Breathe deeply and enjoy. We're sitting by the wood fire on clayey ground. For a boost, there's sweet Malaga wine and sticky dates. Awesome!
