Asparagus with tobacco
To amuse myself I bought a (very noble looking) rehearsal box from Pierre Guillaume (whom we always call Peter Wilhelm). It arrived today and down left I started with Vétiver Matale. I sprayed my right forearm and family tester M exclaimed enthusiastically: "this smells like asparagus". By that he meant the indefinable aromatic notes. It must be said that M loves asparagus (unlike me). I can't smell asparagus, but I don't know what it is either. Direction green-spicy. The projection of the top note is quite strong. Green tea I can imagine, but not really smell.
Then the indefinable (or asparagus) fragrance gives way to a relatively strong tobacco smell with a bit of vetiver. I associate the smell of tobacco with men. This may be a childish imprint, but I find the smell of tobacco strange in me (since I stopped smoking). But M is of the opinion that the scent is unisex. It's a clear case of everyone having to know that for themselves. The projection goes back very much after about half an hour.
I can't say anything about the background. Matale is a city on Sri Lanka. Whether it smells like that there, or whether the vetiver comes from there... no idea.
All in all I like Vetiver Matale, but especially the base, which is soft and ambratic. I can imagine Vetiver Matale more on men of all ages. It's not a universal vertiver. You can probably wear it well in spring, autumn and winter. As a man, I'm sure at work, too. Maybe the projection is too weak to go out. Which brings us back to what we must all know for ourselves
