Open Sesame!
There's a lot more going on in Amber Oudh than just the listed notes of Amber, Resins and Oudh. This very affordable attar by Rasasi (a very famous house by Arabic perfumery standards) is a gem to be sure.
Amber is generally a note that causes quite a lot of confusion ... at least it did for me who thought for the longest time that it was the smell of fossilized resin :) ... and it's not ambergris (from whales) either. I have since discovered that it's a concoction generally made with labdanum, benzoin and vanilla ... all three of which are definitely present here in Amber Oudh.
Also present to my nose are floral notes ... Rose and Jasmine to be more precise, with a soft Oudh permeating the whole and basing this fragrance on a solid Arabic feel. Notable, however, are notes of spice ... definitely cinnamon and I detect a touch of clove. Truly remarkable!!
These all meld together producing a fragrance that is rich and mysterious ... and incredibly captivating. One senses the luxury of draped silks, ornately carved balustrades and henna painted hands alluringly beckoning.
The sillage and longevity here are off the charts and completely disproportional to the very inexpensive cost of this attar. The price here leads one to believe that the ingredients must be synthetic and perhaps they are ... but it could also be a testament to the blatant ripoff that many niche alcohol based fragrances are ... just a thought!
I am absolutely enamored of Amber Oudh ... this is a 'must have' for enthusiasts of Arabic perfumery.
