Herby Derby
Derby strays from Roberto Ugolini's other scents. While I really enjoy this for being different, I can see why people might not like it. It's a strong, woody fougère. What I perceive first is carrot, though. There are plenty of funky spices, and herbaceous smells like basil (I also pick up on some mustard). This is instantly joined by bundles of woodiness.

Made for more casual wear, like the Derby shoe this fragrance is named after. I'm unsure if any inspiration came from the Kentucky Derby but I do sense some grass and earth notes, similar to what I get from Polo Eau de Toilette. I find it quite masculine and enjoyable as I have nothing I can compare it to, but I've recently tried Air Tiger and find them similar. Air Tiger holds more of an oriental spice and more lasting power. I find Derby to last around 7 or 8 hours.

I find Derby best worn on casual outings (think brogue Derbies) but I can see this being worn in plenty of outdoor settings. Very enjoyable.

The onlyyy thing I would change would be to swap the bottle colors with Oxford. Usually, (the more formal) Oxford dress shoes are black and (the more casual) Derbies are brown, so to me it would make more sense to imitate this through the bottle colors. Just a geek's two cents! :)

DERBY - the stylish all-rounder
The somewhat unclear origin of the popular men's shoe model is said to trace back to a Count of Derby, who had very particular demands for his footwear.

According to tradition, his high instep was responsible for the development of a more comfortably adjustable and thus more wearable version of the classic shoe styles available at the time.

This marked the birth of a true all-rounder, suitable for both elegant and more casual to sporty outfits.

In this spirit, the fragrance creation Derby by Roberto Ugolini also moves.

A universally wearable perfume that makes a fitting and confident olfactory statement on any occasion. It is precisely this wonderfully adaptable quality that is responsible for the black color choice of the bottle.

The first step, and thus the beginning of a seductive scent journey, resembles a real kick of refreshing herbal spice.

Mainly responsible for this remarkably lively start of the top note is the distinctive combination of cardamom and basil leaves.

And on the further aromatic route to the heart note, we are already greeted by surprising and equally welcome companions. Cinnamon bark, cumin, and myrrh delve deeper into the predetermined path and gradually lead us on a delightful stroll towards the base note.

On the gradually recognizable path to the horizon, we are welcomed by increasingly perceptible green patchouli and the finest cedarwood.

“Derby” by Roberto Ugolini is the reliable navigator for the stylish and goal-oriented man.

Very unpleasant scent
I received Derby this morning as a sample and of course tested it immediately. Now I would like to briefly explain what kind of scent I imagined with Derby: I expected something fougère-like in the direction of Fougère Royale (2010) Eau de Parfum, "Casamorati - Mefisto Gentiluomo | XerJoff", Scandal pour Homme Parfum etc., but unfortunately, this expectation was not met at all. Of course, I did not expect a dupe of the aforementioned fragrances, but at least something in that direction, like a barbershop or fougère scent.

A slight similarity to Air Tiger can also be recognized in Derby. Now, let's get to what I really did not like. I'll keep it short with the words of those around me: "You stink." Yes, Derby smells very unpleasant to me as well. There is a constant association with sweat mixed with a heating oil or oil note. For me, this combination is truly unbearable, but at least I didn't feel the urge to wash it off with Derby.

I can identify the following notes: cardamom, allspice, myrrh, cumin, patchouli, birch, woods, and vetiver. It is already clear here that Derby is very far from being a fougère. In principle, that wouldn't be a problem if the scent were pleasant and I liked it.

The longevity is solid but not great. I could only perceive Derby for 7 hours, and the sillage is also rather restrained and only noticeable at arm's length for about 3 hours, after which Derby quickly becomes quite close to the skin. I really expected more here, especially in comparison with the other Roberto Ugolini fragrances.

A Day in the Forest ..
You have been in the forest for hours. The sun is shining. It is spring. Maybe even summer.
The freshness from the morning shower is now just a faint, but pleasantly perceptible hint on your skin.
Then the rain comes. Brief but intense. Then the sun again, and the interplay of nature lifts the scents of your surroundings. The dark and primal scent of wood, the bitterness of the leaves, and the sweetness of the flowers. They blend with the freshness of the rain and settle upon you, enveloping you. They refresh you again and accompany you for the rest of your day.
This is what this fragrance is like!

No Oxford and No Friend
So far, I have been quite impressed with all the fragrances tested from Robert Ugolini, partly because they were quite unique scents (17Rosso, Oxford) and partly because the quality of the perfumes is simply outstanding.

It was completely different with Derby, the latest fragrance that was released alongside 4Rosso. I opened the sample, sprayed the scent, and almost immediately regretted it: WHAT IS THAT?! My first association was Cartier Declaration, a punch full of spices right in the face, and this spiciness stays with the fragrance the whole time.

I can't say it any other way, but the scent is an absolute disappointment, and now I can also understand the negative reviews and ratings.

I don't understand why so many YouTubers thought they could compare Derby to Oxford, because statements like: “If you like Oxford, you'll like Derby” I can now clearly refute since Oxford is one of my absolute favorite fragrances and Derby will never be (rather the opposite).

Try it for yourself when you get the chance, but don't let some YouTubers influence you into a blind purchase!

I hoped for leather because of the name, but it's more green-spicy-herbaceous, and right from the start, it's a bit faint and quickly forgotten.

A true "men's scent" - masculine, striking, almost harsh, cool, green, spicy, that only becomes a bit softer at the very end. That's exactly what I don't like.

I expected something different with such great scent notes. Unfortunately, it smells too outdated for me. I'm getting strong aftershave vibes here.

A spice cabinet stands in the woods
and it basically reveals itself as the Air Tiger light,
then it's the Derby. H/S good+ in a great outfit!

"Homme | XerJoff" for the smaller budget.
I don't quite understand the negative review; if AirTiger is too wild for you: this is its DryDown.
