Eyes without a Face
Romeo Gigli for Man's brown box depicts a supposedly young man without a face, wearing a hat and walking with both hands in his pockets, a classy, casual, and elegant dude. Weird is, the first impression I got while smelling few sprays of the juice was of an introvert dirty rock man, like Billy Idol singing Eyes without a face. Unquestionably, staring at the cute and charming bottle it's almost impossible to think of Billy, yet to imagine the real smell of the scent inside.
Romeo Gigli was a pretty famous stylist in the '90, his scent's bottles were kind of like masterpieces. Notwithstanding, I was always oriented towards different scent families and did not buy nor wear any of his creations. Only yesterday I came upon this unknown man cologne, it was standing alone on the shelf on sale for 9.90 euro instead of 29 euro for a 75ml size.
The box, the bottle and its nice wooden cap, and the light green juice inside made me thinks about a citrus-green cologne similar to Mugler Cologne and to be honest, I was expecting anything but this.
Let the boozy note fade away and quickly you will get a bitter, dry. dirty, dark green, and wooden tobacco redolence. It smells just like the real tobacco as if you smell the insides of a shagbag, together with some black tea leaves and some dry wood. Eerie is that neither tobacco nor tea leaves are mentioned in the ingredient, yet that is the strong opening aroma right out of the sprayer.
The heart keeps on going dark and mysterious, resinous and aromatic, I get neither floral nor sweetness from what so ever, yet a lot of spiciness and woodiness. The more I smell it, the more I feel the deepness and secretness the scent reveals with its magic aura.
What do you expect from the dry down? Nothing but a dirty patchouli adorned with smoky vetiver and a tad of mossy and balsamic accords. The perfume is pretty linear, meaning that you could get few notes alone, but the overall scent is pretty the same, from the opening to the dry down.
Romeo Gigli for man is somehow intriguing and wearing it gives a good sillage. The smell stays close to the skin and is bonedry but radiates a green sophistication. I would wear it during cool seasons, daytime, office if you dare, ageless I bet. To me, it is good for a night out or a date if you really want to impress your partner. I figure out this for the man who gets dirty at work working as a mechanic, is straight and introvert, grows a beard from time to time and loves the outdoors for hunting.
To me, this is another underrated jewel in the scent's jungle.
