Eyes without a Face
Romeo Gigli for Man's brown box depicts a supposedly young man without a face, wearing a hat and walking with both hands in his pockets, a classy, casual, and elegant dude. Weird is, the first impression I got while smelling few sprays of the juice was of an introvert dirty rock man, like Billy Idol singing Eyes without a face. Unquestionably, staring at the cute and charming bottle it's almost impossible to think of Billy, yet to imagine the real smell of the scent inside.
Romeo Gigli was a pretty famous stylist in the '90, his scent's bottles were kind of like masterpieces. Notwithstanding, I was always oriented towards different scent families and did not buy nor wear any of his creations. Only yesterday I came upon this unknown man cologne, it was standing alone on the shelf on sale for 9.90 euro instead of 29 euro for a 75ml size.
The box, the bottle and its nice wooden cap, and the light green juice inside made me thinks about a citrus-green cologne similar to Mugler Cologne and to be honest, I was expecting anything but this.

Let the boozy note fade away and quickly you will get a bitter, dry. dirty, dark green, and wooden tobacco redolence. It smells just like the real tobacco as if you smell the insides of a shagbag, together with some black tea leaves and some dry wood. Eerie is that neither tobacco nor tea leaves are mentioned in the ingredient, yet that is the strong opening aroma right out of the sprayer.

The heart keeps on going dark and mysterious, resinous and aromatic, I get neither floral nor sweetness from what so ever, yet a lot of spiciness and woodiness. The more I smell it, the more I feel the deepness and secretness the scent reveals with its magic aura.

What do you expect from the dry down? Nothing but a dirty patchouli adorned with smoky vetiver and a tad of mossy and balsamic accords. The perfume is pretty linear, meaning that you could get few notes alone, but the overall scent is pretty the same, from the opening to the dry down.

Romeo Gigli for man is somehow intriguing and wearing it gives a good sillage. The smell stays close to the skin and is bonedry but radiates a green sophistication. I would wear it during cool seasons, daytime, office if you dare, ageless I bet. To me, it is good for a night out or a date if you really want to impress your partner. I figure out this for the man who gets dirty at work working as a mechanic, is straight and introvert, grows a beard from time to time and loves the outdoors for hunting.

To me, this is another underrated jewel in the scent's jungle.

Nothing to see here...
A bland, generic and diluted scent, reminding me of a lot of other cheap/er smells from the late 1990s.

The only notes I can make out is a little cypress and vetiver with some nutmeg in between, but longevity and sillage are so weak that it disappears on me within two hours.
It's not that it smells bad, it's just that I mentally forget what it smells like 10 minutes after the last vapours of scent are gone.

To be quite honest : nothing to see here, move along !

Sympathetic scent from next door with a head note to savor
Zenkido has aptly described the fragrance - except for the head note. I could really appreciate it only on the second or third try (on well-moisturized skin), but then all the more.

I can only tentatively isolate blackcurrant and grapefruit with a bit of imagination, but this scent definitely starts off eminently edible and fruity. It then morphs "before my eyes" or rather my nose into a geranium-floral note via quince-like Loukhum/rose jelly/other refined Oriental delicacies. And this, as Zenkido already praised, without a gram too much sugar, and with impeccable "masculine" spice and wood accompaniment.
It's just a pity that this charming caper is over so quickly! I've already reapplied several times because it's so much fun. I almost believe it's somehow "meant for women," in one way or another. It smells good on a man, but is also well-suited for "women who like to wear men's fragrances." If you understand what I mean.

The wood/vetiver base is not particularly spectacular, but tasteful, dry, and transparent. At times I found it a bit thin, but that might also depend on dosage and weather, or be due to my attention deficit... and should not imply that it is bland or boring.

Rather friendly and clean. Not soapy or powdery, but simply "freshly washed." No trace of overblown lasting freshness. The coniferous wood (balsam fir according to the notes) is moderately dosed and does not impose itself. And there are no artificial wood or amber clubs or other migraine sources that could spoil the drydown.

If I didn't know this was an Italian fragrance, I probably wouldn't guess, but since I do know, I think, yes, that fits. Suitable for summer, fresh, with a hint of conifer; effortlessly elegant, also classic in the sense that this scent would not stand out unpleasantly anywhere. And then there's the cheeky head note that you just have to like. This is what they call Bella Figura!

Linear, fresh-green-pine herbaceousness
Gigli, a rarely encountered Italian designer in the perfume world, created a rather conservatively arranged, down-to-earth scent with his "For Man" 11 years ago.

Now available online at throwaway prices (still!) (15 euros/125 ml), the fragrance shows no notable strengths but also avoids glaring weaknesses.

From the very beginning fresh-green, consistently spicy, and underscored by a well-perceptible pine note, the scent shows little development, but it clearly indicates that its somewhat rugged, distinctly masculine style could appeal to old-schoolers.

Cypress, juniper, nutmeg, balsam fir, and a bit of (not listed above) tobacco shape the olfactory experience, largely natural, but also quite lacking in surprises.
I don't see it as harshly as Leimbacher in terms of points, but in this fragrance style, there are certainly better, more complex, and longer-lasting scents from the 70s and 80s.

Spicy-Herbal Allrounder
Thank you, dear Smello, for slipping me this sample!

The fragrance starts off with slightly bitter, green, and woody accents, and in the first few seconds, a faint citrus note can also be detected. Juniper and a hint of cinnamon emerge from the dense underbrush after a few minutes, both are rather subtle and enrich the scent. Juniper is predominant. Occasionally, an underdeveloped grapefruit flashes through, but that happens rarely.
Over time, "Romeo Gigli for Man" becomes woodier, more herbal, and a touch sour. I definitely smell oak moss and vetiver here.
In almost every phase of this fragrance, sometimes more, sometimes less, I associate it with dry tobacco. I find that, even as a non-smoker, quite pleasant.

There isn't much development left by the time it reaches the dry down; the fragrance simply becomes quieter and slightly warmer. I therefore place "Romeo Gigli for Man" in the same category as "Tabac Man." Both are fresh-spicy, slightly bitter allrounders that can impress with their pleasing scent, unobtrusiveness, and (relative) linearity in their fragrance development exactly when nothing else works.

The first impression is misleading: No clumsy shower gel exoticism, but a complex play of aromas. Down-to-earth maturity and subtle elegance.

Surprising why no orange blossom is listed.
Almost exclusively the aroma of an orange blossom extremist.
Guaranteed to give you a headache!

A lovely surprise: this unsweetened, herbal-bitter yet not at all classic men's fragrance is great! Perfect for smokers! Performance is okay.
