This is the moment?
As soon as I entered the realm named Hora de la Verdad, I had an eerie sense of déjà vu. Immediately I knew that this was not going to be an enjoyable ride. I had a similar experience with Dominique Ropion's Geranium pour Monsieur , which is also built around the geranium and its masculine aromatic-spicy nature.
In my view, Ropion completely butchered the flower by exaggerating its minty side. Hora de la Verdad is a less obvious but evenly aggressive approach. Both saffron and peppercorns are present in a high dose. They bring forward a number of facets: I get a citrusy-bitterness and tingling peppery effect as well as a more distinct ashy-doughiness from the saffron. This puts the focus solely on the spiciness of the flower from beginning to end.
The result is not a "comfort scent", but something extremely high-pitch and it pretty much leaves me trembling in anxiety. Although I find this one a step up in terms of boldness and artistic value compared to Malle's Geranium, I find it equally uninviting.
At this point I am starting to think that it is not so much the approach that I don't like. I mean, if even Ropion and McCall cannot convince me, perhaps it is the geranium flower itself that is my problem. A sad thought for someone who likes to see himself as a florals enthusiast.
