fruit punch in a can
I had almost blind-bought this one because the bottle is so adorable, but I never saw it at a price I'd be willing to pay for a blind buy. Now I feel glad about that. I was doing an errand at a Sears store today & saw this, so I had a spritz.

There's a fruit punch in the US called Hawaiian Punch that has been around since the 1930s and proudly contains FIVE PERCENT fruit juice. Its original and best-known flavor is "Fruit Juicy Red." It's understandable that it is described by a color rather than a flavor because one can't pick out any distinct type of fruit in it.

For the first two hours, Wonderstruck makes me feel like I'd spilled some Hawaiian Punch on myself. Not unpleasant, but nothing found in nature. It also had a slightly metallic aspect that made me think of the tin cans that HP used to come in. After that, the fake fruit dies down and there is a pleasant hour or so of soft artificial vanilla. I don't love the vanilla phase but, since it has no sillage at that point, I at least don't feel ashamed to be an adult woman wearing it.

Luckily for me, I also find the bottle cheaper-looking and a less vivid blue in person, so I won't feel the need to buy this for the bottle.

BBW meets woodish, amberish aromachemicals
As Taylor Swift WONDERSTRUCK hit my skin I was filled with memories of the Bath and Body Works collection. This seems a lot like a mixture of a couple of their signature scents. Maybe MIDNIGHT POMEGRANATE plus SENSUOUS AMBER plus a dash of VANILLA SUGAR? I'm not sure exactly, but I do think that the fragrance quality is also at about the BBW level.

WONDERSTRUCK is sweet and synthetically fruity, but it will appeal to anyone who likes the BBW fruity scents, with one caveat: lurking in the base is the currently popular pseudo-cedar-pseudo-amber stuff which I for one do not like. If it works for you and you also like purple fruits, then perhaps you could wear this scent. I would rate this as about average among celebrity launches. Not entirely unwearable, but nothing that I'd choose to wear.

The purple fruit aspect reminded me initially of a cross between one of the Britney Spears fragrances and Juicy Couture COUTURE COUTURE, which makes sense perhaps since this, too, is an Elizabeth Arden produced perfume.

A slightly more mature fruity floral than what you may expect
I'm not a huge fan of Taylor Swift, yet I was intrigued by her fragrance. The bottle does absolutely nothing for me, but the scent is another thing entirely. I would actually go so far to say that Wonderstruck is one of the better fruity florals on the market.

The scent opens with sweet, candied berries, soft peach, warm vanilla and a soapy hint of freesia. It's a little bit on the gourmand side, with a berry sorbet feel. Despite its sweetness, I find this fragrance versatile enough to be worn by all ages.

It wasn't what I expected, and in some ways, the composition and the way it smells is quite unique. It's really easy to wear and enjoy. I'll agree that Wonderstruck tends to be a much more mature fruity floral than what is being offered these days.

The composition is unfortunately quite linear after awhile, being mostly sugared berries and creamy vanilla throughout. Which is not a necessarily bad thing I must admit. The longevity does however leave much to be desired. Wonderstruck had all but faded away after only three hours on my skin.

In terms of what teenagers might start wearing this Spring and Summer, I do recommend Wonderstruck to avid Taylor Swift fans and those fruity floral lovers. I'm hoping this fragrance does well, because it deserves some accolade.

Others do much worse
"Wonderstruck" comes in a cute bottle, but it doesn't smell as cutsey or unpleasantly sentimental as I expected. After a very fruity start, the fragrance takes a warm, slightly nutty, vanilla-ambery direction. Very artificial, you might say and I wouldn't object. But given the low price and the "genre" (we're looking at a celebrity scent aimed at a very young audience of fruity-floral lovers) you could do much worse. I tested the latest "Christina Aguiliera" yesterday, a scent called "Unforgettable" and decided that this nondescript fragrance of hers doesn't even deserve a review of its own, just this rant: How could one use the word "UNFORGETTABLE" for such a "meh" juice? I still remember Avon's "Unforgettable" and my heart aches...
But enough, I digress. What I wanted to say is: "Wonderstruck" isn't a masterpiece, but it's more memorable than many other celebrity-releases. And Taylor Swift (or Arden?) even came up with a name of their own which stuck/struck.

Blissfully Comfortable
Sometimes curiosity gets the better of you. Walking through a store one evening with a friend testing perfumes, I sampled Wonderstruck. It’s such a popular fragrance, curiosity really did get the better of me. I have to admit, it was a very pretty scent. It’s not a deep, dark, mysterious perfume, no. Will it blow you away? Of course not. Wonderstruck is not a bombastic perfume, not a powerhouse. But for something simple that won’t overwhelm, a perfume that won’t offend, a “safe bet” as a gift for vanilla lovers of celebrity perfumes, go for it. Wonderstruck will more than suffice.
Wonderstruck reminds me of a number of other vanilla celebrity popular frags on the market today along with Bath and Body Works scents. It’s pretty much straightforward, no surprises, no mind-boggling perfume here. Just a very pretty, cozy hang around the house scent for those that simply like it or as a nice gift for someone who enjoys gourmands or even Taylor Swift.
It lasts quite a few hours and radiates well. Is it worth the higher price tag? I don’t think so. Unless you get it on a good sale, then go for it.
But it depends on what you’re going for. What are your intentions? Does the target recipient like vintages? Or are they a fan of celebrity perfumes? Does it matter to them if a perfume is made today with today’s standards? Do they like foodie perfumes?
Some will say there are more involved perfumes that have fruity gourmand notes. That evolve with surprise. With a swirl of sassiness and depth. You can easily spend the same amount on a vintage with similar notes that’s powerful and plays with your senses. But, there’s seems to be a catch to Wonderstruck. It stays on your mind.
Wonderstruck is sweet, there’s no denying that. It’s powdery. There are nuances of berries in it. Hints of tea and sandalwood swirl throughout. It’s just plain pleasing. Is it synthetic? I don’t really care if it is, because it does smells this pleasing. If a perfume stays in my mind and makes me reach for it over and over again as a comfort perfume, that says something to me. I highly recommend this fragrance to anyone looking for a pleasant fruity-woody vanilla scent.
I love wearing this perfume on week-ends, in the evening to relax and when I’m just slouching around. It seems to envelop me and comfort. It’s blissful.
The bottle comes in three sizes, .50 oz., 1 oz., and 1.7 oz. It's an iridescent bluish-purple with a scrolled gold cap. The 1.7 oz. has a bevy of gold charms encircling it, while the others do not. It’s a pretty little oval shaped bottle.
The 50 ml I originally purchased in a bath and body set for $10 containing a bath gel and body lotion. I thought that was a great price. Shopping at a chain drugstore recently, I was given a coupon for Taylor Swift’s perfumes, and found her 100 ml on sale for $9.79, bringing down the price to $4.79. Now that’s a steal
