Hidden talents
There are days and situations when I like to wear perfumes that have a complex fragrance pyramid and a very multi-layered progression.
And then there are days and situations when less is simply more. Then I want to wear perfumes that are more linear, that don't undergo any major, surprising transformations and where you can simply smell one or two clear, calming fragrances instead of countless exciting scents.
One such perfume is Tonka Venezuela. It says Tonka on it and it's mainly Tonka in it. Vanilla, nutmeg and benzoin remain discreetly in the background. The progression is absolutely linear for me, there is no development or change from the first moment of spraying to the end. A clear, soft, sweet, but not too sweet tonka scent.
Not a perfume to cause a stir with. More of a "cuddle fragrance" for a cozy Sunday on the couch. A perfume that you put on for yourself, to warm and caress your soul, to relax, but not to attract attention.
Compared to other bottles from the brand, the bottle is rather simple and inconspicuous, and one is almost inclined to classify this fragrance as a little inconspicuous. Along the lines of: nice, quite nice, inconspicuous. But nothing more than that.
However, this does not do Tonka Venezuela justice at all! Its true ability is only revealed in combination with other fragrances, because Tonka Venezuela is a true quick-change artist.
As already described here several times in the statements and reviews, this perfume is perfect for giving almost any other perfume an extra dose of gourmandism. Fragrances that are sometimes too harsh, too fresh or too floral for me become soft, warm and wonderfully gourmand without losing their actual character. Even absolute classics such as Coco Mademoiselle are given a completely new touch by the Venezuelan tonka.
I can only warmly recommend this small, inconspicuous bottle to gourmand fans in particular. It is a really beautiful fragrance on its own. But in combination with other fragrances (and I dare say that this is possible with most perfumes) it is a true gourmand delight!
