Stunning fragrance. Dreadful longevity.
I’ve sprayed this on three times now. The initial spray takes all the bitterness and sharp lemon, mint and lime and it awakens the senses in such a great way! I love how it then dries down to a slightly more complicated, almost muted fruity, woody fragrance. It’s simply wonderful! I adore it. Would I own it? Not a chance….. The longevity is as bad as I’ve known a fragrance to be. There isn’t even a remnant of this left on my skin inside three hours of application. Absolutely gutting, and for the price, unforgivable. You’d have to spent your whole time walking round with the bottle or a decant just to get you through the day!

UPDATE: Still love the fragrance, had to try and persevere with it. Tried it with some moisturiser and ISO E Super….. Game changing! Stayed on my skin for 10 hours! Bottle purchased!

the simple things
If you think of Azure Lime as an Eau de Cologne, it makes sense. By concentration, it is an eau de parfum, but by taxonomy it is an edc. Whether an edc should cost this much will be a function of your budget.

Lime is such a tight note. It is so specific and so concise. Citrus notes tend to be sharp, reading as fresh and bracing, but lime is narrower than other citrus notes. There is no lead-in and no denouement. Azure Lime takes advantage of this sharpness. The topnotes are a blast of lime and turpentine, like a face-scrunching reduction of gin and lime. The lime note (wonderfully!) doesn’t grow softer. Despite the flowers, musk and spice notes that eventually join it, the lime itself never submits.

In a classic edc, floral and spice notes broaden the chief citrus note (typically lemon or bergamot) and musks soften it. In what feels like a reversal, the lime bends the other notes to its will. The floral note (jasmine?) dries as soon as it appears and the musk note gives the lime more backbone than padding, lending a woody feel to the composition.

Azure Lime stays dry and cool from top to bottom, ending on a quiet, dusty note. A woody/spicy, cardamom/cedar scent stays attached to the lime so that even into the basenotes, the fragrance has a juniper/gin sting.

Azure Lime wears like and eau de cologne and should be splashed with abandon for full effect. It captures a very specific notion of luxury, one that I have to say I find appealing: the $10 dose of cologne. It is the anti-bling of perfumery. Forget the rare, the exotic, the over-the-top. This is the luxe of the simple done well.

Missing something...
Much is said about the Private Blend line.

Although there are many great perfumes from this line, Azure Lime disappointed me.

That is not a bad fragrance, but I think it lacks character.

It's missing something else that justifies its price, as with many Creeds.

Its opening is wonderful, with some floral and citrus notes. However, its drydown is disappointing and mediocre because it leads to a common place of summer fragrances.

The drydown is basically composed of woody notes, remaining with some floral tones, something totally harmless and boring.

It has good lasting power and projection.

Beauty in the Second Row
Azure Lime is sometimes treated somewhat like a stepchild among the established heavyweights of the Tom Ford Private Blends. Yet he cannot and does not want to compete with Tuscan Leather, Noir de Noir, Oud Wood, and the others. How could he?

He is the little brother in a sailor suit, breathlessly trailing behind, perhaps shyer than the others, yet of a friendly disposition, and very entertaining once you get to know him. He is gentle and cheerful, opulent but not cloying, refreshing without being fresh. He tells a small, joyful story in which southern sunshine shines, and he tells it - if you listen closely - in the unmistakable language of his stronger brothers and more capricious sisters.

He is a gust of wind in a stack of light blue sheets on a dazzling white terrace, he is glistening banana leaves after a brief rain, and he is a misted glass of sweet iced tea. And he is the gentle wave lapping in a bay marked by prosperity and good living, and the memory of warm afternoon sun on a white sheet.

I wear Azure Lime in spring and summer - alternating with other perfumes. You can recognize the related disposition, the roundness, the very opulence here as well. It is just an octave higher than with the others. He bends perhaps one or two times less within the eight to twelve hours during which a fragrance changes on the skin, lingers longer in between, and may even arrive a bit earlier. But he entertains with his usual confidence, never becoming arbitrary, never thin.

Conclusion: perhaps the most underrated of all Tom Ford Private Blends. One that deserves a second nose.

Nice, but unspectacular summer scent
Pff…

I'm just sitting here (well, while I'm typing this, which has probably long happened by the time you read this :D) and wondering when my internet will be back up. There’s been an outage with Vodafone for two days now, but there’s no explanation anywhere. No wonder that the people affected are throwing around some pretty unkind words to vent their frustration,… and yes… it's slowly getting on my nerves too *sigh*
Especially when I see the red LEDs of my router blinking ominously… (and yes, I'm publishing this comment from my phone, at least that still works,…).

I'm glad I still have a few samples to at least pass the time while I reach into the sample box and pull out a scent. And when I pull out a Tom Ford and am reminded of fragrances like Black Orchid, I think that the day can't get any worse… :DD

But let's see, Azure Lime sounds quite nice just from the name. Lime does sound citrusy-summery, so fresh and presumably fragrant!

Hmpf… I just see that this sample was also sealed with tape on the cap,… now I have to get this thing open… so much for the day not getting worse :D

The scent:
The scent starts off with a slightly classic aroma (like a barbershop, as it’s sometimes referred to here). It smells of lemon or lime and is quite aquatic. The mint is refreshingly nice and smells good, complemented by basil, which pairs well with the citrusy and fresh notes.
A little later, the scent becomes slightly sweeter, but really only a little, as it mainly remains aquatically fresh. This sweetness could come from the violets. There’s also a hint of neroli, but otherwise I can hardly make out the rest of the heart notes (that is, the fragrance notes in the fragrance pyramid). In the background, I somehow perceive light, green notes.
In the base, oak moss is listed, and now I understand why the scent seemed to me like a classic men's fragrance; it was the well-known combination of bergamot/lemon with oak moss (especially since the moss is already fragrant at the beginning). The sweetness becomes a bit stronger, and you can now also smell tonka bean, but it doesn’t last even an hour, so the scent in the later base hardly smells sweet, but rather just aquatic and citrusy.
Overall, it’s quite okay, but not really great.

The sillage and longevity:
The projection is enough to refresh oneself and perceive the scent somewhat, but others need to come a bit closer over time.
The longevity is about five to six hours, after which the scent is almost gone.

The bottle:
The scent comes in the well-known rectangular bottles that somewhat resemble columns. However, considering that the scent is translated as Sky Blue Lime, the bottle could also have been blue or turquoise like most of the fresh Tom Ford fragrances instead of being black. It still looks good, as I personally like the design of the bottles.

Azure Lime is nicely made, but it also doesn't smell like anything special and is furthermore not particularly strong (which is the case with all citrus scents). If someone wants a little refreshment, this scent can certainly do well, but there are many citrus fragrances that smell much better and are significantly cheaper.

To be honest, Azure Lime is not bad, but I find fragrances (by Tom Ford) like Neroli Portofino or especially Mandarino di Amalfi to be much better crafted, so I would recommend those scents over this one.
The strength of this scent is merely that it sometimes smells like classic men's fragrances, if that’s what you’re into. The other two mentioned fragrances do not have this classic approach with oak moss. Oh, and the scent also lasts a bit better.

Soo… the day is almost over, my internet still isn’t working, and the fragrances I tested today weren’t exactly stellar… a rather disappointing day overall *sigh* … the rain that has made everything nice and wet fits perfectly with that. All that’s missing is for my cat to get diarrhea, argh… :D

I wish everyone a nice weekend… however, there will be new comments from me tomorrow as usual… because I’ve probably become a nuisance here *waaaaaaah* :DD

The opening is one of the best things I've ever smelled. Citrusy-bitter, green, great lime. But after 1 hour, the scent falls apart.

Dreamy start with lots of lime, green, and then the scent gradually fades into generic designer stuff. Beautiful at times.

Smells subtly like a long drink with lime, mint, and various fruits, and is thus miles better than many heavy Private Blend TFs.

Herb-citrusy shower gel scent with old-fashioned fougère accents. I find it neither special nor really high-quality...

Oh yes, Tom. A bit of green, a bit of new advertising. But you don't dare to do anything. You used to have some good greens... oh no, Tom.
