Noir Is The New Rouge
Scentrack
Nicola Conte – Bossa Per Due

Apparently, for parfumer Olivier Gillotin the role model for this fragrance was legendary Guerlain Habit Rouge. It has all the qualities of Habit Rouge, only little bit updated – easier to wear and cleaner. It opens with a yellow lemon kick and a touch of bergamot, while strong mint gives a huge green aspect. Gentle Pink pepper is present in the opening as well. Very soon flowery bouquet of fresh, but subdued roses and slightly powdery iris opens. This fresh, flowery, pollen-like, but still not feminine heart is gorgeous. In the drydown vanilla becomes a more pronounced, with just a touch of patchouli. In the background something woody, and almost animalic is present. This note is not strong, but still giving needed masculine edge.
Noir EdT is smart, easy to wear masculine fragrance. It has some retro vibe, but still perfectly contemporary. It possesses a Mediterranean charm and refined relaxed attitude.

Tom Ford Noir EDT — A Personal Take
I got it almost by chance. I had read a review, happened to come across it, and decided to go for it. It wasn’t something I was specifically looking for, but I’m glad I got it.
If I had to say when I’d wear it, I’d say spring or summer outings. Mountains, boats, sailing — it has a character that breathes in open spaces.
First impression was positive. The Noir EDT is essentially a fresher and lighter version of the original Noir EDP. It retains the warmth of the original, but without the same heaviness or sweetness. The combination of green notes, spices and a woody base works really well together. It’s oriental, spicy, green — it knows what it wants to say.
Worth mentioning that the Noir EDT was designed as the masculine counterpart to Tom Ford’s Violet Blonde — interesting when you think about it, as it explains the balance and elegance of the composition. The house, however, has never officially revealed who the perfumer behind this particular version is.
It’s not offensive to anyone. I see it on a confident man who doesn’t seek attention but earns it naturally. It doesn’t shout — it simply exists.
The only downside I’d mention is the projection. Longevity is decent for a fresh fragrance, but don’t expect it to fill a room. Worth keeping in mind if sillage matters to you.
Overall, it’s an unreserved recommendation for anyone drawn to greener, aromatic fragrances.

The Night Made into a Powdery Day
I spontaneously bought the black EdP version of Noir last year in-store right after its release because I liked it so much. Then I wrote one of my longest comments here, and since then it has been sitting almost unused in my perfume cabinet. A shame, because I still really like this powdery vanilla-civet combo / Shalimar homage. I only have a sparse explanation for not wearing it, probably because it's too intense for everyday use, I don't go out partying as often anymore, and when I do, the competition of scents in my closet is also not small.

Now I was all the more curious about the lighter, more citrusy EdT version, from which I was lucky enough to snag a sample at the Parfumo meeting. It is definitely a Tom Ford, definitely a Noir. Because the difference to the black version is not very big; fortunately, it is simply called EdT and the bottle is lightened up. An L'eau or something similar would be too much to ask for.

Noir EdT opens citrusy-powdery, but already here quite oriental. Civet and vanilla are also present, but everything is lighter, airier. From a going-out scent, it has become an opulent all-rounder. I probably would have significantly more wearing opportunities for the EdT than for the EdP. But you certainly don't need both. I particularly like the mint at the beginning, which immediately indicates the bright direction, although it doesn't stay for long. I found it amusing that the EdT somehow appeared not only more powdery but also more chocolatey on me, reminiscent of Hanae Mori's HM and other citrus-chocolate representatives at times. Overall, a nice product that in this version lives more from its references to masterpieces of the fragrance world than from its own ideas. But you have to be able to do that too, just look at Tarantino in cinema.

I like the bottle in light almost better than in dark, although it naturally doesn't match the name as well anymore. The scent lasted no shorter than the original, which is commendable. The sillage was a bit lighter and less intrusive than with the EdP.

Conclusion: I almost want to recommend the EdT more than the black bottle. It is definitely more versatile, but only deviates minimally from the established path.

Very sensible reworking of the too heavy and indulgent "Noir" EdP: powdery-animalic spiciness
I’ll admit it straight away - even though I appreciate the black monolith "Noir" in certain aspects - its playfulness with old fragrance concepts, its partially visible homage to "Shalimar" or "Habit Rouge" - for me personally, it is simply too "over-composed": Too dense, too heavy, too much pepper, too much sillage brashness.

A "relieving" EdT variant can only be welcomed, right?

Stylistically unmistakable, the brighter, more accessible, and more refined Eau de Toilette carries the "Noir" signature.
A bit citrusy at the start, livelier and fresher due to a noticeably expanded sourness, moving even more towards my beloved "Habit Rouge".

The animalic background, strongly reminiscent of "Shalimar", reveals itself after a few minutes - a powerful, powdered puma cage, as some critics who dislike civet might maliciously call it.

Personally, I really enjoy this contrast of a clean citrus start and slightly sultry animal notes, and Tom Ford has clearly refined, reworked, and polished his too raw, angular, and also cloying EdP variant here.

The long dry down of the fragrance convinces with a style that continues to dwell in the powdery, slightly woody, gently peppery, and still animalic nuances, where a few floral aspects may also be hiding.

Thank you for this improvement of a well-intentioned but half-heartedly executed fragrance idea, Mr. Ford!

Welcome to the Tom Tom Club!
Tom Ford and the olfactory creations attributed to him are to be taken seriously. I don't know why I haven't paid more attention to them until now, because everything I have tested so far has been better - than expected, than the mainstream, and above all different! Different from what one might expect from the name, the stylish appearance, and the price, that is my opinion. Tom Ford Noir EdT is a powdery, metrosexual oriental. For me, it comes close to the scale of the sexiest fragrances, ranking just below Gucci Rush, which is equally cool and addictive. Nevertheless, I also smell a resemblance to Dior Homme, insofar as Noir subtly holds dark chocolate wood notes that take some of the sweetness away from the powder, coming across much more subtly and skillfully than, for example, in Kokorico. I wanted to explore Noir as a men's fragrance on myself after I had been chasing a former colleague for months, whose scent was the best until I found out what he was using. After that, the colleague naturally had his peace from me, but I no longer want to miss Noir. I think it suits the suit-wearing Suit Supply customer around 27 just as much as the casual mid-50s guy with horn-rimmed glasses and a title. I am now officially a fan of TF and am joining the club...

An unusually tender citron behind the powdery and mild-spicy notes. The powdery accents are comfortable, the citruses are delicate.

I smell something almondy-heliotrope here. Sweet, spicy, herbal. It's not dark, but very likable.

A cheeky, animalistic men's fragrance, just as it should be.
Rich spiciness that shimmers with a hint of lemon on the wearer.

Why is it only getting a mediocre response here? A tribute to one of the greatest fragrances in the world: a modern Habit Rouge.

This Tom Ford scent pulls at me too: not unpleasant, but: too citrusy, too herbal, too spicy! Our last try: I promise!

Starts with fresh, crisp notes. Then it becomes creamier, without drifting completely into the feminine. Suitable for business, cozy, good!
