Very expensive moth spray...?!

After reading here and becoming very curious about the scent, and since I generally really like fragrances with patchouli, I ordered a rather large decant some time ago from a perfumery in the souk. I thought to myself: consistently very good reviews, Tom Ford and patchouli - you can hardly go wrong!

When I first sprayed it on, I somehow didn’t trust my nose at all. Because everything I could perceive at that moment had nothing to do with the description of the notes, the positive reviews, or patchouli...! I am confused and also somewhat bitterly disappointed, so I set it aside for now. I thought maybe it just doesn’t fit the setting, I’ll try it again in a few days from the beginning. Unfortunately, this didn’t change my "olfactory experience." It smells fresh and citrusy but also somehow just cheap and like... moth spray?! There is simply no trace of the usual earthy patchouli. Unfortunately, I can find absolutely nothing positive about this scent. It all seemed a bit strange to me. I can’t imagine for the life of me that THIS is supposed to be patchouli absolu. A scent that has almost no points of contact with patchouli. All the good reviews here and then the (at first glance) appealing and coherent fragrance pyramid. Hm... I thought to myself, even if one tries hard, one can’t possibly ruin patchouli this much?! I was a bit perplexed and came up with the idea to ask the decanter if he might have made a mistake in labeling the decant and sent me something else. It can happen, we are all just human and have a bad day sometimes. After that, I was directly blocked without a comment. Is it normal to be blocked immediately after a polite inquiry? That also seemed a bit strange to me. Well, as for the scent, I am still none the wiser. Even my toilet cleaner somehow smells more pleasant. Since the scent is officially no longer sold, it’s difficult to test it in a department store. So it will probably remain a mystery until I eventually order a second decant somewhere or can test it elsewhere to compare... If anyone has had a similar experience with this scent, I would be very interested. Feel free to comment ;)

I would say it's your batch, because I mostly smell patchouli in this fragrance, with a bit of moss and leather. So there's really nothing citrusy here. The scent isn't particularly complex either; what you smell at the beginning mostly stays the same until the end, with patchouli becoming even more prominent in the drydown. If you can't smell patchouli at all, I personally find that very curious.

Thanks for your assessment.. And yes, it’s probably due to the batch. I definitely need to get a sample from somewhere else when I get the chance.

Some of the comments already hint that the patchouli is completely overshadowed here.
It's a shame about the hasty reaction after your inquiry.
Fortunately, there are some really beautiful and good patchouli scents.
