Floral Aquat
Sole di Positano Acqua is a fresh, floral, and aquatic EdT. I got it along with Tom Ford Costa Azzurra Acqua and must say that Costa Azzurra comes across as more masculine and spicier.

Sole di Positano Acqua is very fresh but also floral. I smell, although not mentioned, jasmine and other flowers. The freshness comes from the sandalwood and citrus notes, especially in the opening.

The scent is fleeting, light, and well-suited for summer, for sports, on summer evenings, during vacations, or as an everyday fragrance. Although labeled as unisex, I find it more feminine than masculine; still, I enjoy wearing it from time to time. Simply because it has this carefree quality and is not too sweet or overpowering. Those who prefer something a bit spicier yet still summery should reach for Costa Azzurra Acqua. Price is better than the EdP, as it is EdT and diluted.

Summer Night's Dream that Quickly Becomes Forgettable
I have surely financed one or two Botox injections for Mr. Ford by now. Despite the sometimes crazy prices, some of his fragrances have extreme addictive potential and then need to be reordered as 250ml. With Sole di Positano Acqua, I was tempted to make an exception and buy it blind; I have been testing it repeatedly for several months and now come to my conclusion, which I believe sums up everything worth knowing about the scent: Meh.

A bit more detailed? "Citrusy-fresh" fits quite well, the name says it all. Sillage and longevity are at the lower end, even for citrus, rather disappointing. What is completely missing, however, is that certain something that many of Ford's fragrances usually have. There’s no punch, no impact, and nothing remarkable at all.

As a complete package, this thing simply sinks without a trace, or my olfactory senses are immune to the certain nuances that other testers have picked up. But even though I am generally very fond of both citrus and fresh scents, Positano Acqua does not bring any joy - what a pity. You can wear it, it smells okay in the short term. But with this house (and at this price!), I simply had different expectations. Sorry, Tom Ford - you can't get everything right.

So on my next trip to Italy, I will prefer to pack the tried and tested Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza: It lasts significantly longer, offers a comparatively outstanding sillage, is fresh and cheerful, citrusy and fresh - and: It gives the Dolce Vita feeling that I had so hoped for from Positano Acqua.

Take three, pay for just one!
We all know such offers, you can choose three different items from a pool and only have to pay for the most expensive one, while the other two are free.

I thought of such promotions while testing Sole di Positano Acqua.

At first, however, I thought I was only getting one scent, namely a 4711.
In the opening and throughout the first hour, Sole di Positano Acqua strongly resembles the admittedly natural, transparent, and refreshingly uncomplicated 4711 Acqua Colonia scents: In my nose, gentle orange blossom and petitgrain, without petitgrain being too dominant.
Somewhat outraged that a Tom Ford would dare to smell like a fragrance from the lowest price range, I had already placed the vial in the sample box for the extras. If I want to smell like this, which I do sometimes, I’ll buy a 4711 for €18.00 and not a Tom Ford for €108.00.

And then I tidied up, emptied the mailbox....
Suddenly, a strange smell wafted into my nose. What was that? It smelled just like all those fragrances with water lily or lotus, which seem so oddly musty and swampy that I always recoil when I read about them in pyramids. Could this be the Tom Ford?
Indeed. From my 4711 impression, only a hint of citrus freshness remained, and over that lay a whole swamp of stagnant, decaying freshwater tainted with a bit of plastic.

Hmm, the Tom Ford obviously has more to offer than a classic 4711 cologne, but unfortunately exactly the wrong thing for me. On one hand, this realization made me feel reconciled (not a rip-off), but on the other hand, I was now disappointed for the second time.
Now was actually the time to wash off the scent, but I still had a few things to do and one thing led to another...

What was that? Something wonderfully floral was in the air. Could this be the Tom Ford?
Indeed. Now the puddle had regained its ecological balance: An interesting, oddly crisp freshness of freshwater and green plants mingled with wonderful, slightly sweet, enchanting flowers. Fresh, but warm like on a mild spring evening, gentle, friendly, and unusual. What flowers are these? Without knowing the pyramid, I would almost guess lily of the valley. I love the true scent of lily of the valley.

I suspect that the shiso leaf is my water lily, and together with the remnants of the citrus notes, the moss, and the Mohéli ylang-ylang, it creates for me a lily of the valley meadow by the lake on a mild spring evening.

Pay for one and you get three:
Firstly, a 4711.
Secondly, a light women's fragrance with dominant water lily.
Thirdly, a mild, warm dream of lily of the valley by the freshwater.

I really like two out of the three.
Since the spring evening by the lake lasts almost the entire night and eventually somehow returns to 4711, I can easily endure the half hour of stagnant puddle with plastic.

I fished the sample out of the box again. I will wear Sole di Positano Acqua again. At the latest in spring.

Bitter fresh scent, refreshing for summer but doesn’t last more than an hour,no sillage found. I bought it for the the gym for summer months

Fresh, citrusy, floral, aquatic. Sole di Positano Acqua is also green and slightly woody/musky in the base. Nice but nothing groundbreaking.

Citrusy yes. Fresh? Not so much. I don't get freshness at all. More like laundry left in the dryer for days - damp, albeit lemon-scented.

In the narrow streets of Positano
Flowers glow in front of colorful houses
In the citrus evening light of the sun
On wooden tables of the cafés
Flicker moss-green candles

Here too, the Aqua version turns an inherently stylish fragrance into a rather lifeless synthetic flanker. Wearable for summer.

Sunset over the cliffs of Positano, an Aperol Spritz, and the summer breeze... Wonderful. Along with Mandarino, the best TF Acqua.

Very nice fresh kick scent that is just as good as the EDP. Just a lot cheaper with the Acqua now. Worth it!

The EdP is a bit more complex, while the Acqua is fresher and more vibrant. Conclusion: Both are great, but the Acqua just edges it out.

Citrusy, aquatic, fresh - I can't wait to spray it on in the summer. Freshly picked lemons, wow. The bottle looks amazing.
