Vert Bohème Tom Ford 2016

Starts with a bitter and green opening then becomes a skin scent in about 3 hours. I like the scent after the bitterness has gone but it's performance, especially in warm weather is very poor. Boheme would suggest mystery and flamboyance but this unfortunately has neither in my opinion.

Green are hope, spring, and this fragrance. For me, this treasure is like a walk (mountain biking trip) in spring. Green in all its facets, with flowers and blossoms appearing again and again. The scent always remains dominantly green, but new sweet, floral aspects seem to emerge constantly. It is remarkable that the fragrance never really becomes sweet. An olfactory masterpiece!

I do not understand why Vert bohème is classified as a women's fragrance. For me, the scent is perfectly unisex and suitable for everyone due to its constantly changing facets.

The longevity is top-notch, the fragrance lasts almost 8 hours and comes with a good sillage.

A fascinating and recurring motif in the literary memory of many countries is that of the beautiful and vain woman who, for the selfish preservation of her youth and beauty, resorts to - mostly evil - magical powers. A recent example is Rapunzel's 'foster mother' Gothel in Walt Disney's entertaining animated film, who kept the girl trapped in a tower because combing her golden hair secured her eternal youth, and Snow White's evil queen Ravenna - played by an icy-demonic Charlize Theron - who drained the life from girls to remain forever young and beautiful herself. For the sake of completeness (and gender fairness), one should also mention Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray, in whose place a painting of himself aged and morally as well as physically decayed. These 'Forever young' stories never end well.

Something very beautiful, something very vain, something not young, and something ominous - these are the essential attributes of Tom Ford's Vert Bohème. The 'Vert', the Green, leads one down a false trail, for in reality, it is a darkly dramatic floral scent, not unlike Oud Fleur in its essence. It too has something superficially magnificent and opulent with a hint of something damaged within, and their top notes are similar, bright, blooming, overripe. Following this very Ford-typical intro, Vert Bohème presents a bitter and serious forest note, devoid of any sweetness or charm. Rather, it reminds one of an enchanted, dark forest - like Tolkien's Fangorn or the garden Oglais in The NeverEnding Story, that forest of carnivorous orchids, in the midst of which the evil sorceress Xayíde resides.

Conclusion: 'Bohème' - often misinterpreted as 'just' a party-loving artistic crowd - actually refers to an intellectually and aesthetically elevated subculture with a deeply anti-bourgeois self-understanding, and thus the name of this fragrance is explained. Hard to ignore. Difficult and beautiful.
