Volkamaria WienerBlut 2012

Hats off to this stubborn beast!
Before I finally got to smell the fragrance, I did a bit of research on its background.
The term "Wiener Blut" was coined in 1873 and describes the special temperament of the residents of Vienna during the height of the monarchy: a mix of zest for life and frivolity - the decadence of the Fin-de-Siècle.
Thus, Wiener Blut is an antithesis to the "blue blood" of the rest of the European high aristocracy.
The fragrance is inspired by the fashion, art, and luxury of the Imperial and Royal Monarchy of Austria-Hungary.
I had high hopes for the fragrance, as I found not only the inspiration behind it but also the notes themselves to be very interesting and beautiful when I reviewed the fragrance description.
Thanks to a dear friend, I was finally able to test the fragrance extensively:
First, I can perceive fresh citrus notes - bergamot and mandarin with a hint of light powder.
The opening is quite nice, but not extraordinary.
After the citrus top note "evaporates," I can clearly detect the iris and heliotrope, light and floral with a touch of powder.
However, after about 1.5 hours, "the tables turn," and a very synthetic and biting sweetness completely overshadows the previously lovely fragrance... From then on, there is nothing else to smell on my skin.
I must admit that I no longer like the fragrance from that point on... Since I had sprayed the fragrance on both wrists, it almost knocked me out, because the scent is really STRONG!!
So I tried to wash it off one wrist... 4 times lathering up and even applying hand cream over it, but you just can't get rid of it!
Hats off to this stubborn beast!
I had to endure it! Even after showering and "sleeping on it," I could still perceive the fragrance...
Only after the second shower the next day, with plenty of lathering, was I able to "get rid of" Volkamaria... that pesky tick!!
Anyone who enjoys sweet-synthetic and long-lasting fragrances should give Volkamaria a try... For me, it was simply "too much of a bad thing"!
It must be the temperament of the Viennese ;)

As a Viennese, I love the old tick - maybe it's my temperament ;) It's a shame it was such a flop for you, but thanks for the nice comment! A little tick trophy for you ;)

It's a shame it comes across that way for you! One of the most genius scents I've ever encountered... powdery, buttery, smoky-yeah, "old maid" kind of fits! :)

I think it's amazing! A real old maid scent. But it's so exaggerated that it's actually genius.

That would have been one for me, and I didn't even test it. Next time :).
