Uden Overdose Xerjoff 2018

Having worn this fragrance twice now, I think I know why it’s given the name Overdose. It’s because you need an overdose of it to smell it. It’s such an incredibly subdued smell next to the roomfiller that is the original Uden! And that’s a shame for such a nice scent. On my skin (which apparently slurps this one up) it’s immediately a skin scent after spraying four sprays, and lasts around 4 to 6 hours.

As I said the smell is incredibly pleasant to me. It’s creamy, a bit watery, chalky yet still has a citric tone to it, which stays its entire lifetime. I can’t detect any coffee notes in here. It’s smoother and more linear than the OG, which is really pungently fresh in the opening and dries down towards a more dry woody vanilla backbone. There’s also something in here that reminds me of band-aid, something I associate with Parfums de Marly fragrances (Darley and Oajan ). I like that, it feels comfy like a pampered baby.

It’s different enough from #Uden to justify owning both but just don’t expect this to be a stronger better version of the OG. I won’t be buying a full bottle of this though, as it’s lacking that certain x-factor that makes you go hmmmmm to justify the price.

Edit: maybe I was noseblind or whatever but after about 8 hours I so still pick up whiffs of it. It’s just a very subtle scent bubble overall. I adjusted my longevity’s score a bit because of that.

Very nice, fresh fragrance that would really work on warmer days in spring, summer or fall. Starts out with a bite of citrus and spiciness becomes more apparent as it dries down eventually becoming powdery. Does not strike me as overly sweet. Performance is quite good. Rated only an average scent because it's very powdery for a good portion of its life on my skin. Don't personally care for such a strong powdery accord.

I do actually understand the comparisons with Versace Dreamer. Not exact, as that is much more floral than this, but a similar vibe.

The ginger will tone down, as will the citrus. However, the citrus will stick around for the duration.

There actually is a slightly detectable coffee note at this point, but it is completely overshadowed and not nearly as strong as in Uden.

What I was expecting when I heard the name Overdose, was for the coffee to be ramped up and citrus toned down. Maybe a darker formula, but no, they went in another direction.

What is here is a citrusy tobacco blossom with a blend of amber and musk coming from the base. The amber is probably 60/40 with the musk, to my nose. This is basically what the scent is for the rest of the way.

Uden Overdose opens with the expected citrus notes of lemon and bergamot, but instead of smelling naturalistic, I sadly found it quite synthetic and harsh, with touches of burnt plastic.

Fortunately, the slightly unpleasant introduction I experienced was short-lived, as within a couple of minutes a transition is underway. Ginger comes forward to replace the citrus, and the harshness of the opening begins to disappear. It's now smoky and mellow, although at this point still synthetic to my nose. For me, it takes another 30 minutes or so to settle down, and when it does, it is transformed by white floral notes and gentle musk, complemented by an underlying amber that gives it depth.

For the next few hours, Uden Overdose is at its best and very wearable for dressed-up summer evenings out. It lasts a good eight hours on my skin and seems to project fairly well.
