Me and My Wood
In my search for wood scents, Buddha Wood was recommended to me so passionately by two dear perfume enthusiasts that I had to test it immediately. And they were right, those connoisseurs and seers. :)
Immediately, the song came to my mind, the content of which I always thought was nonsense, but surely the two of them were wearing Buddha Wood when they created this work. :) If you don't know it yet, click the link below and listen.
So, it's about wood, interpreted in many ways, but never presented so pure and authentic.
Displacing the dull nothingness, a lighter, gentler smoke made its way into life. Not the smoke that develops from a wood fire. Rather, like that from lightly smoldering, noble tropical wood, having cooled down. Accompanied by a kind of sweet unsweetness. Paradox? Not at all! Like the aroma of cold, dark, caramelized brown sugar. Alongside it, sun-warmed, noble woods join in, dry, somehow crackling. For me, a truly very light note of licorice floats along, not disturbing, spicy like sweet wood. Marbled dark brown, golden shimmering with amber-colored resins, the spectacular opening presents itself to me. Exciting! But after about 8-10 minutes, a complete silence sets in abruptly. Nothing is perceptible. The scent holds its breath. The pulse of time beats softly for about 2-3 minutes.
In the background, the stage set changes. The lights go out again, and gradually a slightly sour note, like that of slightly fermented fruits, emerges. The stage of evolution comes to my mind, a new curtain, a new era unfolds. I think of amino acids, of the beginning, the birth of a new species. Clearly perceptible, it peels itself out of its fruit bubble. It straightens up and begins its life. The new species pushes back the forests, conquering the stage. Organic, alive, captivating. Unusual for me. Initially somewhat disturbing, then the meaning revealed itself to me.
Steppe runners appear, rolling slowly across the scene. They absorb wood and acidity. Rolling, they alternately release these notes, spinning faster and faster. Gradually, the two protagonists merge into a kind of warm woody, light resinous freshness. I think of the underbrush of tropical rainforests. Of the ancient, bony roots of dried mangroves. The sun rises, warming the woods, and the organic departs the stage. It had its time and should not prevail. In contrast, the wood, nobly ripened in the sun and gaining in size, has completely displaced it.
The final image reaches its peak after about 30 minutes! Like a still life, it adorns my skin without forming an alliance with it. Naturally, pure, identical, pleasant, unobtrusive, and yet well perceptible, it surrounds me like a long-missed home. It halts time, allowing me to forget what defines the modern hectic lifestyle of humanity.
I sit down, looking at this image, which will no longer change from now on. It calms me, lets me travel to places of origin. Reminds me of the beginning, of peace, of innocence. I linger for hours in this place that embraces me securely. After several hours, my image fades. It is wiped away by a kind of creamy milk. The mixture dissolves softly from my shell. And at the edge, the curtain gradually closes.
Now it might be time for a new story of evolution. Perhaps Oud'ish is the next episode in development. From wood comes the finest oud, and the first whales and ox-like mammals enter the stage…
Conclusion:
A must for every wood scent fan and nature lover. Pure and truly masterfully, an olfactory genesis is staged here. And this is just one story that Buddha has told me. A parallel story unfolds in Bali in a small but very exclusive manufactory for Buddhas made of noble woods :)
Cafenoire, thank you for this beautiful journey...

I do like woody scents, but I've always had them combined with flowers or vanilla. Nice comment, and I'll keep this fragrance in mind........
