A Feast Between Beauty, Blood and What Remains of It
The Black Dinner is a very atmospheric fragrance that captures its dark story in a tangible olfactory form.
The opening is dominated by dried fruits, juicy raspberry and red wine. The opening feels almost “festive”.
Next, a slight animalic quality from the oud develops, but on my skin it becomes very gentle after a few minutes and remains in the background.
A juicy, metallic rose joins in, creating the association of blood. Jasmine rounds off the heart of the fragrance and makes it very elegant.
In the DD, the fragrance becomes warmer and softer. Slightly fruity, balsamic oud, amber, vanilla and musk evoke what remains after the celebrations, once everyone has left. The warmth, the wine and the scent of the bouquets of roses still linger in the air, but the banquet hall is deserted. And in fact, the DD is also the absolute highlight of the fragrance for me. Individual notes are hardly recognisable anymore; instead, the fragrance becomes more atmospheric. The mood created here is difficult to put into words and simply beautiful.
The fragrance creates a contrast between beauty and violence without becoming abstract.
For me, The Black Dinner is Anomalous’s most well-rounded and accomplished work so far. To me, it combines the best of fragrances such as The Red Wedding, Marbles Tear and Blood of River Nile. As a result, the DNA does feel familiar if you know the brand’s fragrances and the perfumer’s signature, but I was still completely captivated by this new release. The more often I smell the fragrance, the more I fall in love with it.
