The Fulfilled Longing
Astrophel and Stella is an English-language collection of poems from the 16th century, artfully revolving around an unfulfilled yet unattainable love.
I discovered Astrophil & Stella at Esxense Milano, and soon I fulfilled my longing for their bestselling fragrance Amberlievable - because this scent is simply poetry!
It starts with a sweet-fruity orange blossom that I have never smelled anywhere else, except on an orange tree. In the first few minutes, the floral notes dominate, but then the entire amber warmth of this fragrance develops in such a enveloping, cuddly-soft manner, it's simply melt-in-your-mouth. The woody base provides good longevity and depth.
This combination of orange blossom and amber could easily come across as slightly outdated or overpowering - but it doesn't. The fragrance composition leaves a very modern, effortless impression. Due to the floral notes, it tends to be more feminine, but can definitely be worn by men as well.
The frequently cited comparison to "Amber Star | XerJoff" is understandable, as this enveloping warmth, this syrupy fragrance consistency, is very reminiscent of it. However, Amberlievable is lighter, more suitable for everyday wear, and can be used all year round (not exactly above 30 degrees, but definitely not just for fall/winter).
If "Amber Star | XerJoff" is a haute couture dress that you can wear to a state reception but not to the office, then Amberlievable is prêt-à-porter - chic, but always wearable. So, if you are not looking for an opulent masterpiece for a grand appearance, but rather elegance for every day, you will surely find fulfilled love in "Amberlievable | Astrophil & Stella."

Heavenly sweet, viscous, and golden
Amberlievable by Astrophil & Stella is a very fine amber fragrance. No question about it. However, I must emphasize that there is a similarity to "Amber Star | XerJoff"; if anyone thinks they can find a budget alternative here, I cannot confirm that. While both contain amber (the namesake), the Xerjoff impresses primarily with its black velvet texture (likely due to the slightly peppery Gurjun balsam), whereas the Astrophil is more of a typical amber scent. I do find a similarity to "Essenze - Amber Gold | Ermenegildo Zegna." And the heavenly golden "Grand Soir | Maison Francis Kurkdjian" is not far off!

This brings me to the key characteristic of Amberlievable and the clear distinguishing criterion compared to "Amber Star | XerJoff": the association here is not black velvet, but gold! Amberlievable is a 'sippable' amber scent. A sweet gold liqueur. A bright, radiant amber gourmand. It is very delicious, but by no means as refined or extravagant as Xerjoff's "Amber Star | XerJoff." (Btw: I find many Xerjoffs not particularly refined - so this is not a general praise, but rather a specific comparison to this one fragrance - Amber Star.)

Back to Astrophil & Stella: The fragrance texture is viscous like the tree resin that could trap spiders and other tiny creatures millions of years ago before it hardened into the gold of the seas, to be processed into various jewelry items today. Additionally, the scent is honey-sweet and thus deserves its color: gold. On the skin, it is oily, but the top-notch sprayer disperses it into a fine mist. I appreciate that very much.

The resins and the balsamic amber strongly dominate Amberlievable. Patchouli, one of the many listed notes, has (perhaps fortunately) hardly a chance here. Among those that do manage to assert themselves a bit are orange blossom, which gives the fragrance a certain summery lightness (and reminds one of Reflection Man), as well as vanilla and ylang-ylang, which contribute to the gourmand overall impression. The mentioned woods, however, are in my opinion not discernible individually; they provide at best a foundation that is more reminiscent of rosewood (like in Palissandre d'Or) than, for example, sandalwood.

Overall, I count Amberlievable among the very beautiful fragrances, which is why I not only understand the name as a play on words but also consider it justified. This fragrance invites you to dream: nothing disturbs, nothing bites, nothing scratches. "Heavenly" would indeed be a term I would also accept here. Additionally, "unbelievable" carries the connotation of "cheeky," which could indeed relate to the longevity of the fragrance: without this bothering me too much, cheeky can also be quite fun, I find this rather weak for an extrait. The sillage, however, seems to me not to be underestimated given the relatively high oil content. The small 50ml bottle is cute. All in all, Astrophil & Stella offers quite a bit here for a relatively moderate price.

Amberlievable vs. Amber Star and why Ambre 114 is included
First of all: I like all three fragrances. Character is the most important thing for me in a perfume (besides longevity and sillage). When I think of amber, I imagine something viscous, orange to brownish, almost waxy, with a special secret. Amber is for me something aged, mature, elegant, full of nobility. It is no coincidence that most amber fragrances are recommended for "older" people on Parfumo…
My ranking, chosen based on originality (smells as natural as amber should), quality, complexity (variety of notes), and coherence (the scent is silky, round, and the notes fit together, ideally enriching each other).

1. The High-End Amber: "Amber Star | XerJoff" (meets all four criteria)
2. Middle Class: Amberlievable (originality, quality, and coherence)
3. Best Price & Quality Bargain: Ambre 114 (originality, quality, and coherence)

Amber Star and Amberlievable are very similar, but Amber Star benefits, in my opinion, from the quality of the individual notes (AMBRA is supposed to be in here!), which make the scent more complex and interesting. Amber Star offers variety. You get nuances of bitter chocolate, spicy cinnamon with honey sweetness (like pollen honey, for those who know it) on top. The expected and "promised performance" is guaranteed with Amber Star. Amberlievable is minimally more floral, more feminine, and Amber Star is a true unisex, I love it! In Amber Star, all notes are overall more intense, but ALWAYS finely tuned, always round, always noble. It is woodier, resinous, and therefore just so delicious.

Amberlievable is less intense, airier, a brighter golden yellow (the image fits perfectly). It is less strongly woody and resinous, which is probably why it is more interesting for women. I would say Amber Star is the extrait, Amberlievable the EDP. Amberlievable is very similar to Amber Star, but the few differences really make the difference.

Ambre 114 is included in this comparison because it is very similar to Amberlievable; it is somewhat more classic but much more potent. The performance is out of this world and stands on par with Amber Star. I would say Ambre 114 has a stronger sillage than Amber Star. It also scores with the price-performance ratio, 60 ml costs just under €70. An almost unknown fragrance and a hidden gem (probably particularly liked by men).

So? Do you already know which one is yours? I will keep testing diligently...

It is a beautifully blended, warm, incens-y kind of scent. Don't get much of the florals but the vanilla is subtly there in the background.

It leans towards Amber Star, but doesn't quite reach it. Not as powerful, not as rich, not as natural, not as beautiful.
