Sweet Wine with a cooling Twist

Since there are no impressions of this fragrance yet, I wanted to share my personal experience with it so far.

Toast Lucky Wind by Black Paw opens with a strong, very pleasant sweet yellow wine note. It’s not just generically “boozy.” It has that slightly fermented, warm, golden sweetness that feels round and full rather than sharp. To my nose, it really captures that smooth, mildly syrupy character you get from traditional Chinese yellow wine. The lemon probably helps to elevate that sweetness and gives it a brighter touch.

What makes it more interesting is a subtle cooling effect in the opening. There’s a light menthol-like freshness running through it, which I assume comes from the eucalyptus and maybe the artemisia listed in the note breakdown. It doesn’t turn medicinal on my skin, but it gives the sweetness lift and contrast. Without that cooling nuance, the wine sweetness might feel too heavy but here, it feels balanced and surprisingly wearable.

As it develops, it becomes smoother and a bit softer, though the sweet Huángjiǔ remains the core theme throughout. It doesn’t drastically change direction instead, it gently settles into a cozy, slightly sweet aura.

Longevity on my skin is around 4 to 6 hours, which I find fair for this type of fragrance. Projection is clearly noticeable in the beginning, then becomes more moderate and closer to the skin.

The price is very good for 30 ml, although it’s unfortunately only available in China. It feels creative and culturally distinctive rather than mass-appealing. If you enjoy sweet, slightly boozy fragrances with an unusual twist, this is definitely worth exploring.

I’m happy to own something this uncommon.
