Only Partially Worth the Hype
The Too Damn Good is supposedly very similar to Bal d'Afrique Eau de Parfum by Byredo. I first tested this fragrance four or five years ago. At the time, I remembered it as a really good fragrance, but never so good that I absolutely wanted to buy it.
Then, when it suddenly felt like every influencer was talking about Too Damn Good, I wanted to refresh my memory of Bal d’Afrique and, of course, find out whether this version really was as extraordinary as many people claimed.
Many describe the fragrance as very soapy. Personally, I can't relate to that. To me, it is rather lightly fruity, slightly sweet and floral from beginning to end. Overall, it comes across as elegant, soft and not at all synthetic or tiring. The individual notes are not particularly easy to pick out. Instead, they blend into a very harmonious overall impression.
In the opening, I perceive a subtle freshness with a slightly fruity and citrusy note. After that, the fragrance stays true to its direction and develops into a pleasantly sweet floral composition that comes across as rather feminine to me. Nevertheless, I would have no problem wearing it myself as a man. I think men with a bit of confidence can wear this fragrance just as well as women.
The bottle and atomizer are, as one has come to expect from Jeremy, genuinely high-quality. Unfortunately, the same cannot quite be said for the longevity. Although it is an Extrait de Parfum, the fragrance lasts only about four hours on my skin before gradually becoming weaker. Perhaps this is also due to my skin chemistry, but I expected significantly more here. The other fragrances in the line perform noticeably better in terms of longevity for me.
Is the fragrance good? Absolutely. Is it as outstanding as some people make it out to be? In my opinion, no. The hype is somewhat bigger than the fragrance itself. Nevertheless, what you get here is an elegant, lightly fruity, sweet floral composition that is pleasant to wear and versatile. Overall, it is absolutely fair for the price. The only shame is that the longevity does not quite do the rest of the fragrance justice.
