Margarita meets pina colada--sweet, salty, boozy, fresh
Calvin Klein CK One Summer 2014 is probably still the most popular / hyped CK One Summer version in recent memory, no doubt due to it being one of the best, a margarita-meets-pina colada mix that features a mix of citruses, coconut, tequila, sugar, florals, and woods. It’s fresh, a good balance of salty and sweet, slightly boozy and fruity, with some savory undertones. Certainly it feels most appropriate in the daytime during warmer weather, but it’s refreshing and awakening any time.

It compares to Tommy Bahama Set Sail St. Barts well, though St. Barts is a bit sweeter, leaning into the coconut more, whereas CK One Summer 2014 is a bit saltier, referencing the margarita somewhat more.

It performs moderately, but that’s fair, given that the price point was reasonable, especially on the secondary market, though I’m not sure how easy it is to find a bottle nowadays.

Overall, it’s quite nice, and I’d recommend nabbing a bottle if you would like a slightly saltier alternative to St. Barts.

another face in the crowd
First off..... I just tried this on yesterday and wore it again before going to sleep. My review might change soon. Also, I have not made an official count or done any serious survey but there seems to be MANY, A LOT, NUMEROUS aquatic/beach/summer flankers and limited edition releases out there.

You're bound to come across a few that seem to smell alike or "cross paths".

Anyone who has read my reviews knows I'm not a great nose. Some reviewers on fragrantica, "fraghead" websites and youtube reviewers can break down notes and nuances. I just tend to give my general idea on the overall aroma and projection/longevity.

This one seems synthetic and the notes are muddled. It's nice but c'mon, does it really stand out? How many times can you do the whole "melon", "aquatic" and "lime" notes? I'm happy with Tommy Bahama's Set Sail which covers that and smells similar to an expensive Creed VIW.

Summer de Janeiro
The World Cup summer is just around the corner, and I’m excited. It fits perfectly with my current endeavor to expand the summery side of my collection. If possible, not with too many new orange fragrances - I already have many, including some of the best. Right now, I’m looking more for other summer refreshers - mint, lime, fruits, ice, cocktails. I find it very difficult to deal with marine aquatics, but it’s also quite interesting to find suitable candidates. Overall, it’s a challenging task to distinguish between the often very similar summer perfumes and to separate the wheat from the chaff.

But let’s get to the latest CK One Summer - which deserves an extra detailed comment from me. Get ready for it, here’s one of my recommendations for your summer, and it’s limited and very affordable. And unique, different, sexy, young. Perfect for a samba summer. Sure, it’s not perfect, but I’m happy to start a bit of hype here so that at least more people will test it. Because it has convinced me so much that I will even take a closer look at the other summer editions, having already ordered the predecessor blindly. It hit a nerve and deserves to be bought. The original could also be considered, a perfect entry-level perfume, which never really fit into my large collection. This spot could now be taken by one or two of the summer editions, which might even gain value over the years and become rarer. Plus, it has a hot beach look and no boring ideas - collector’s heart, what more could you want! I did test one of the Summers during my early days and commented on it - back then, however, it was just very quickly, strictly, and I didn’t catch a particularly spectacular vintage. Unlike this Rio-Caipirinha with bite, zest, and party mode.

With this scent, the hips shake, the sun burns, and the holiday and leisure heart laughs. It starts with tequila, lime, and a lot of sugar - of course, the fragrance pyramid is also marketing. But besides courage, ideas, and coolness, I’m simply convinced by this laid-back Caribbean scent. Sure, it’s not niche, quite the opposite. It’s definitely synthetic and sometimes scratchy and odd. At first, I thought, oh no, too much melon. But overall, this thing rocks and just dances away the criticism. One could really imagine raw sugar. I even smell a very slightly salty note, as if you’ve been dried out for 3 hours after a trip to the sea. Coconut is only very lightly present at the end, plus a powdery musk drydown. Conclusion: Award for being particularly bold and slightly tipsy!

Bottle: stylish, colorful, young, cool. But there have been much prettier ones.
Sillage: free and summery - don’t expect too much.
Longevity: here, too, low expectations help - then you’ll be rewarded with 7 hours.

Despite the synthetics and flaws here and there - the 2014 CK One Summer is an extraordinary vintage that will be talked about for a long time. So secure your copy, even if that sounds sensational. At least test it and let me know your opinion. I think especially the younger ones around 20 will love this cocktail with tequila!

P.S.: Alcoholics and children, please keep your distance ;)

Tequila Fruit Cocktail
Spring is just around the corner, spring and summer fragrances are slowly being brought out again, and some summer smashers are moving from the wish list to the have-it list. Who doesn't know the anticipation? The transition from heavy to light and vice versa? I always look forward to a change in scent.
I got this one last year along with the CK One Summer version 2016. I like CK One and all its flankers and limited editions. Similar to the classic, you can get them for a small price, and they are really very good flankers. Especially the summer versions.
The 2016 version is a fruity mojito cocktail, while this one is a truly fresh fruit tequila cocktail. This scent is really very light and summery, as the series suggests. This lovely cocktail note also makes it a good evening scent.
It starts off fruity-fresh. Grapefruit, lemon, lime, and also a nice melon note. Added to that is tequila with a decent sugar note. It really smells delicious. If my cocktail smelled like this, I would love to drink it. Unisex is also completely justified here, as it is with all summer flankers. Good vibes are guaranteed. The sillage is also quite good, especially in the first two hours. The downside is unfortunately the longevity. I would estimate 4-5 hours. However, this is a problem that many fresh fragrances have, even at significantly higher prices. It is definitely suitable for a refreshing summer scent. For longer activities, I would choose a different fragrance. Summer 2014 is a lovely casual scent for spring and summer.

Although it is a limited edition, it is consistently available at many shops. For under 30 euros for 100ml, it's a nice bargain for the upcoming warm season.

Summer, Sun: Lightness
CK One Summer 2014 I would describe as a lovable fragrance. Since last Friday, the weather has been doing somersaults. Starting with summer heat at 35°C; then thunderstorms and finally rainy weather at well below 17°C. In the last 5 days, there has been something for everyone. In such weather, the olfactory chaff separates from the wheat. I would definitely assign this EdT to the wheat:

Tropical heat: The wearer sweats but the fragrance works. No unpleasant combinations that could leave others breathless.

Summer thunderstorms, storms, and downpours: As long as you don't get soaked to the bone, the fragrance holds up, which is no small feat. But even in a drenched state, a pleasant scent remains.

Heavy rain and dreary weather: The fragrance spreads summer lightness and instills confidence that the sun will soon show itself again.

What more could a man or woman want?

CK One Summer 2014 is definitely not a fair-weather fragrance. The EdT performs just as well beyond the 30-degree mark as it does on rainy, gloomy bad weather days.

A great and interesting summer scent. Really special and not generic like many summer flankers. Only the performance has some drawbacks.

My Cala Ra' fragrance 2018. First vacation together. Total summer vibe, but unfortunately faded after 1 hour. My beautiful moment-bringer :)

A relaxed, tipsy start to the summer day, but by the afternoon, a hangover mood sets in. The slightly alcoholic cocktail note becomes "annoying."
