Attar that can be sprayed.
I really don’t like this.. I must say the leather case makes it smell better. I tried it without and I couldn’t bare it. Very dark and resinous. There is plenty of black ambergris, and gassy oud with dark smoky aromatics to support. Not fun; maybe it is if you are older or reaching 5 on the Norwood scale. I don’t know; it smells evil and very mature. The oil is more of my enjoyment. When it comes to classic leather, I think no.1 is nicer. This one seems to follow a singular direction, Very angry one at that. I appreciate the textiles here though. it’s something that slowly changes, but never gets brighter. You just unlock a different side to the profile. I wear this when sad and also looking to cuss someone out without doing such. Oud SQ’s alcoholic father. I see the vision; but it’s not my type. This is fairly comparable to watain, If you guys like black metal try ‘Mortem Sibi Consicere’ by them, it plays out like this perfume. Oomfs, in different facets, like a dual use finely cut obsidian stone, pretty but deadly. I like the song more though.. this perfume is enjoyable as an expressive one for me.

If Black Panther had a signature perfume, this would be it!
Possibly my favorite oud spray in my collection, Tigerwood was my first Ensar Oud spray that I felt was perfectly my style, a fragrance that its liquid, leather case and composition scream absolute darkness, there are no pretty notes, there are no top notes, simply an amalgamation of resins with an absurd amount of oud, the oud used here I would describe as crude gasoline, raw leather, smoke/incense (not zen like) and resinous peppery, coming from one side more commercial, the oud(malayan region) used here is for me what should be the industry standard, popular opinion wants us to think that all ouds are stinky, animalistic and unusable but once again it is simply the distortion that large companies use to hide the true to average consumer.

The Beauty and the Beast
As a big fan of the Tigerwood oils, especially the Tigerwood Royale, I was more than hyped when I received the news that these almost "legendary" ouds would now also be available as a spray perfume, or as EO calls it; "PureParfum." Never before have I clicked the "Order Button" so quickly as in this case.

For those who are not yet familiar with the Tigerwoods - these are wild vintage ouds from Malaysia that were distilled between 1990 and 2001. In this case, not by Ensar himself. According to him, he purchased the oils from a Chinese oud tycoon, and besides him, other bottles are exclusively owned by the Queen of Abu Dhabi.

What makes these ouds so special in my opinion is the absolutely extraordinary scent profile, which is among the most complex I have ever smelled in agarwood oils.

It is so complex that it is difficult to describe. A mix of mineral, earthy, leathery, woody, and mossy. One of the most fitting descriptions would probably be the term "petrichor," which describes the typical smell of the atmosphere just before a summer rain - everyone knows and loves that, right? "It smells like rain."

So much for the oud itself.

Ensar seems to be very aware of the significance of "Tigerwood Royale" among oud lovers around the world, and that is probably the reason why he decided to create a "spray variant" of it. The same strategy has already proven to be extremely successful with "Oud Yusuf PP."

Now to the PP:
The notes sounded very promising to me. In my mind, the addition of coffee, vanilla, cocoa, tobacco, Kashmir musk, etc. created an extremely harmonious composition. The only thing that worried me a bit was the black ambergris, of which, according to the description, "huge amounts" were used. Black ambergris is by far the most extreme and animalistic variant and is therefore used rather rarely.

Even during the first test, I realized: "Oh dear, this is not going to be an easy scent."… and I am anything but squeamish when it comes to fragrances.

In the opening, you can clearly recognize the Tigerwood DNA. Although, due to the logically lower concentration, it appears somewhat more transparent. In the first few minutes, very slight nuances of coffee, tobacco, and cocoa come through. Here, the emphasis is on "nuances." This means that the notes are present but in no way steal the show from the oud.

What follows is exactly what Ensar described: "A base-heavy blast, that ain’t pretty."

Tigerwood has no heart notes, which means that the opening transitions directly into the base after about 10 minutes, and the base is more than intense. The black ambergris is so incredibly potent that, in my opinion, it completely overwhelms all other notes and mercilessly pushes them down. Here and there, you can still recognize the slight gasoline-like, almost heavy oil-like notes of the oud, but the main player after 10 minutes is clearly Black Ambergris. As I said, I am really not sensitive when it comes to animalistic and extraordinary scents, but the Tigerwood base plays in a completely different league here.

I wouldn't even call it animalistic but rather "swampy." It reminds me of the smell of damp moors and rotting wood. Someone else described the scent as "the smell of Mordor" or "Smeagol's Signature" from "The Lord of the Rings." Unfortunately, I have to say that I find that quite accurate. An acquaintance of mine, who works as a dental technician, even thought the scent smelled like "halitosis." Admittedly, I had to Google that myself, but in principle, it describes nothing other than "bad breath."

In between, a trace of oak moss occasionally comes through, which, in my opinion, seems completely out of place, as it brings a strange chypre character to the composition and irritates more than it does any good for the scent.

To me, the entire fragrance gives an impression of being unbalanced, immature, and unfinished. Like a rushed attempt to quickly crown the "Tigerwood hype." I would even go so far as to say that it is more of a "smell" than a perfume.

The longer the scent stayed on my skin, the more unpleasant it became for me. Not just for me, but also for those around me. My girlfriend liked it at first, but that changed quite quickly. To make sure it wasn't just an unfortunate interaction between the scent and my skin chemistry, I sprayed the scent on a sweater for comparison - unfortunately with the same result.

To illustrate this with a short example:
If I had to choose between War&Peace II, which I greatly appreciate but am aware is light-years away from being "everyday suitable," and the Tigerwood PP for a job interview, I would probably choose W&P II.

My personal conclusion:
Ensar has not done "Tigerwood Royale" any favors with the PP in my opinion. Perhaps it is solely due to the opulent use of black ambergris, or perhaps the focus of the fixatives should have been more on musk or on the higher-graded white ambergris. I don't know; I'm not a perfumer. But considering that Ensar claims to have used the last remnants of this valuable oil for the scent, I can only say: What a shame for this wonderful exceptional oud.

It is certainly an extreme challenge to create a tribute to such a product, but free after the motto: Never Change a running System, some things should perhaps just be left untouched. After all, no one would come up with the idea of modifying a Ferrari F40.

Admittedly, Ensar clearly communicated in advance that the scent would not be "pretty," and therefore I do not want to "complain" here but merely convey how the result smells to me.

I also want to EMPHASIZE VERY CLEARLY that this is merely my SUBJECTIVE opinion and perception. I am sure there are people who find the perfume absolutely brilliant. I respect that 100% and am happy for anyone who appreciates this scent as it is. Perhaps the scent just needs to mature for a few more months; we will see. Personally, I will definitely stick with the oil.

With such a high price, a scent must meet certain criteria for me, and unfortunately, Tigerwood does not fulfill that in this case. As always, the rule applies: Test it yourself and don't place too much value on my opinion. Only then can one judge objectively. At least as long as the word "objectively" even exists in the world of fragrances.

And suddenly you were (again) there.... / The Cola and the Tiger from the Forest
Hello everyone,

this review will be a bit different from the others and perhaps it’s not a classic review as some of you might know..., because for ME it is special for several reasons! But more on that later.

Preface:

I first smelled you, dear "Tigerwood (Pure Parfum) | Ensar Oud / Oriscent" 21/22 very fleetingly (along with many other EOs + some from ALD, but perhaps that was also the MISTAKE - today I believe that it was).

Then at the end of 23 or the beginning of 24, I received a sample here and there it was = the "Legendary 'Tigerwood (Pure Parfum) | Ensar Oud / Oriscent'" and I am not one to easily give a 10/10, and if I have given this rating to 12 fragrances so far, that’s quite a few..., but this one truly deserves this rating. Because it perfectly matches MY direction and MY taste, like for example Musk Lave, Baikal Gris Extrait de Parfum, or also "Iris Blanc | Ensar Oud / Oriscent" (just mentioning this on the side).

When I saw what the prices say after the renewed test and its rarity, I honestly felt a bit strange. Because honestly, a fragrance starting at €30/ml is hard for me as a businessman to explain sensibly and logically, because it’s not really (!), but if you want one - supply + demand - the old and well-known game....

A brief price update for you = at the end of 23 it was around €30, now after roughly 12 months it’s at €35 to €38 per ml, you really have to want that and the prices will continue to explode...
__________

About the fragrance:

What makes the fragrance unique for ME (I think) is the mix of cocoa, black amber, pepper, light leather, and the smoky + green woody notes; it tingles in the nose and gives me the most intense cola note I have ever encountered (EO + ALD).

It develops wonderfully and each stage is a celebration.

I have only used the term artwork here to my knowledge 3 times before, with Musk Lave, 1872 Mandarin, and my old Reflection 45 (first version) = here we are at the 4th time!

Its performance is to be rated very well (8.5 to 9 each) and those who rate it lower, I cannot understand in that regard!

Can I recommend it?

YES!

Should you know it?

YES!

Do you absolutely need one?

I tend to say no!
But why?

There are 2 important factors = do you want to smell like this/ do you like it and are you willing to pay the price???

I cannot say this of course and I do not want to RECOMMEND it to anyone, but I believe it certainly doesn’t hurt to know it.

And one more thing, the flacon that comes in the leather case (mine too = I have an old one), in my opinion, has the most beautiful case of those I know - the small embossed logos on the sides and in the middle the large one, on one side Pure Parfum and on the other Tigerwood... = WOW a true work of art (inside and out).

One day I would really like to have another nearly full one..., partly because I find it so beautiful and partly because I know there will never be anything like it again in this form.

At this point, I just want to say THANK YOU.
THANK YOU to EO and THANK YOU for the artwork!

And now have a nice day/evening or whenever you read this review, best regards, Benny

The True Tiger King
Let's start, this fragrance was designed to give fans of Tigerwood Royale a sprayable form of their favorite ouds.
But what is Tigerwood Royale anyway?

Tigerwood Royale is definitely not for oud rookies and can come across as somewhat off-putting or too intense for some people. This is not because this oud has any animalic/fecal or barnyard notes.
It smells very intensely mineral, leathery, smoky, and in my opinion, also slightly like gasoline.

Now the question is, how can you make a perfume out of this? Actually, Tigerwood is not a perfume as defined by the norms of perfumery, as it consists only of top and base notes and completely forgoes heart notes.
This perfume can best be compared to a tree.
Tigerwood Royale is the trunk, and the other ingredients are the branches.
You perceive Tigerwood Royale the whole time until the end.
As soon as you spray it, you notice a wonderful coffee/cocoa note that envelops the Tigerwood Royale along with ambergris.
The tobacco notes add a certain warmth to the whole thing and nicely round off this extreme first impression.
After a while, the coffee note becomes softer, and the musk merges with the ambergris and Tigerwood Royale into an extremely good blend.
Notes like pepper, vanilla, black tea, etc. are only faintly noticeable as they serve more to give the tiger a certain smoothness.
Oakmoss and the wood notes act as a booster for the fragrance with the black ambergris and have a significant impact on the projection of the scent, which I really like.
All in all, from my perspective, it is a perfect balance of extremely dark oud and animalic-sweet-spicy coffee notes.
Ensar consistently manages to blend the finest naturals with the treasures from the royal reserves of the former Sultan Qaboos of Oman into olfactory masterpieces, and he has succeeded again in this case.

As for longevity, I would say it lasts about 7 hours on my skin and easily until the next day on clothes.
The sillage of this fragrance is quite strong in the first few hours; you definitely leave a good cloud behind you at the beginning.

I find coffee to be a very tricky component in perfumes, and many coffee fragrances I have tested so far I found quite off-putting or unwearable, as they were simply too gourmand, artificial, or intense. Until a few months ago, Oud Luwak by Areej Le Dore was the only one I would label as a wearable coffee scent, and I think anyone who appreciated the qualities of a Luwak will simply love the Tigerwood.

I would describe this perfume as one of the most complex and controversial creations Ensar has made so far, as it has not pleased fans of Tigerwood Royale at all, yet many people who did not like the Tigerwood Royale oud enjoy it extremely well.

I took my time with a final opinion, as Ensar's fragrances continue to evolve over time, and I can now say with full conviction that this perfume is one of the best in my collection. I would even label it as a signature candidate if it weren't limited and likely to be sold out forever.

Weirdly prefer "Tigerwood: Terengganu | Ensar Oud / Oriscent". Not the biggest fan of the coffee here. Smokier, and less cola :(

Apart from the dark ambergris sharpness, this scent hardly brings any fun. From the heart, it's quite dry and leathery. Not my thing, but well made.
