Nectar, ambrosia and earthly peace
In the early morning of Boxing Day, I continue my journey into the seasons of the Himalayas. Summer in Paro takes me southwest of Tibet to the small town of Paro in western Bhutan, the country that has dedicated itself to happiness. Happiness was defined as a political goal as early as the 18th century, and in 1979 the king coined the term "Gross National Happiness". Term "Gross National Happiness". Paro used to be fought over between Tibet and Bhutan, the caravans arrived here and today it is touristy with many sights from ancient times. It is also located in a fertile valley where rice, apples and potatoes are grown.

A word about the house Hima Jomo. It is not based in Asia, but in the old perfume town of Grasse and is committed to sustainability. 95% of the essences should be natural, no animals should suffer in the production process, the packaging should be recyclable and Hima Jomo donates €1 per bottle sold to the WWF for the conservation of nature in the Himalayas. "Hima" refers to the Himalayas, "Jomo" means the Holy Mother in Tibetan according to the note enclosed with my sample set and is an acronym, i.e. a word formed from initial letters, namely "Joy Of Missing Out". I would translate "Missing Out" in this context as something to be left out, less is more, let five be straight or something like that. Delphine Thierry has extracted all four seasons.

What awaits me in Paro in summer? I am greeted by a rather resinous but soft fragrance, honey, Nepalese Szechuan pepper and petitgrain, for me as a perfume novice and
not yet traveled to the Himalayas, the latter are completely new. I already love pink pepper, this pepper is just as little spicy, but vividly full and harmoniously integrated into the trio of fragrance notes. Summer in Paro is warm, light and comforting. I am standing in the partial shade of tall trees, bees are buzzing and entering mauve, yellow and white flowers. A warm breeze blows and carries aromas that make me linger here in the moment of summer's eternity, I lean against a tree and open my nose and lungs wide.

I'm a little bit dampened, I've been dreaming in Jomo's embrace, she is now bringing me woody aromas, benzoin, osmanthus and amyris, she explains to me, I just surrender to the pleasure of the warm accord and postpone my research into what exactly it is until later, let myself fall into the lightness of life, where I am provided for with warmth, nectar and ambrosia. Jomo has set me a delicious strange drink, I sip it, for it nourishes, refreshes and delights body and soul. She has gone away, but I know now that she exists, that she cares for me and lets me rest and sniff here in peace.

And so that I don't have to work, she has left me four small bowls with notes: Labdanum, patchouli, fir balsam, sandalwood, which is the base note, so it remains woody, warmly supporting the fragrances I have already sniffed, everything is finely integrated and coordinated. After all, I haven't moved for hours. A hidden forest is the refuge of my warm summer retreat, as Hima Jomo sees it, and I also smell nothing of the sea, no green meadow, just this soft, full warmth. I am content and at peace with myself and the world for this moment.

Perhaps I should do like Grenouille, the perfume genius from Grasse, and secretly bring the fragrance to places before difficult situations so that people start to love and trust in peace, not me. Secure in the divine creation, they will find solutions more easily that everyone involved can live with, because the ego can step back and give space to the needs of others. What a beautiful dream.

I return to Christmas morning and do some research. Petitgrain from the top note is obtained from the leaves, twigs and unripe fruit of the bitter orange and, of course, now I can smell the citrus too.

The heart note contains benzoin, a vanilla-scented incense resin that I have come to know as harmonizing and comforting in aromatherapy. Osmanthus was already in Spring in Bome and is an Asian olive tree whose flowers smell of peach and also leathery. Here I smell neither the one nor the other. Amyris is West Indian sandalwood with a long-lasting, aphrodisiac effect.

Labdanum from the base note is the resin of cistus with a subtle honey scent. Patchouli is a classic, but I can't smell it yet, for beginners like me: earthy, woody, balsamic-sweet, heavy, spicy, pine forest. I find everything here except heavy, which is really skillfully integrated into this quartet together with the fir balsam.

Hours later, the woody scents remain in the foreground, a little more powdery.

A summer fragrance that warms even now in winter like a delicately scented fire, very intimate, I have to sniff close to the skin and that's where the fragrance lingers. A fragrance for all genders - a principle of the house of Hima Jomo - for everyday life, making you want to work, for an intimate encounter with your loved one - and here I actually prefer the body's own aromas, this one is the only one I would accept. Even on a summer walk, it would still accompany the local scents of air, plants and earth like a benevolent base note.

What can I say but hach and mmh, happiness doesn't need so many words...
To be continued with the fall in Lhoka, so it's back to Tibet, but I'll stay a little longer in the little forest in Paro.
