Interesting Facts

The company "Jünger & Gebhardt" is said to have been founded on April 1, 1873 by Wilhelm Jünger, a former employee of Roger & Gallet in Paris, and Eduard Gebhardt at the address Kastanien-Allee in Berlin. The legal form of the company was changed several times, in 1912, 1923 and after 1948.

According to a letterhead, "Jünger & Gebhardt" advertised itself in the 1910s as the "First German factory for floral-fragrances-, lanolin-cream-products and fine soaps". A well-known Eau de Cologne producer of Cologne is said to have held a growing stake in the later stock corporation.

According to secondary sources, orders from the Wehrmacht are said to have ensured the survival of the perfumery, fine soap and care product manufacturer during the Second World War. Archival documents show that in 1945, the company registered war damage and moved its headquarters from Alexandrinenstraße 51 to Kleiststraße 39 in Berlin due to the damage.

On January 1, 1948, the "Jünger & Gebhardt" headquarters was moved from Berlin to Cologne, which can certainly be seen as a strategic decision due to Berlin's situation at that time. Jünger & Gebhardt in Cologne-Ehrenfeld marketed its products under the "Patrizier-Haus Köln" brand. One of the brand's main attractions was "Patrizier Lavendel".

A branch of the Cologne parent company remained in West Berlin. Secondary sources also report a "Feinseifen-Parfümerie-Fabrik Jünger & Gebhardt GmbH" as a branch of the West Berlin subsidiary in the eastern part of the city, which was dissolved in September 1951 and handed over to the "Vereinigung Volkseigener Betriebe Chemie" (association of nationally owned companies, chemical division, of the German Democratic Republic) as trustee.
