The French perfume house Katana was founded in 2021 by Alp Veliogulliari, who had already discovered his passion for natural raw materials in 2012 when he began purchasing traditional Indian oils and incense.

Alp Veliogulliari focused on researching natural raw materials such as sandalwood, oud, and other special resins, which were mainly found in their original, unprocessed form in Asia and particularly fascinated him.

He soon felt the desire to produce his own distillates and extracts from these natural materials in order to obtain ever higher-quality, purer oils for his perfume blends from the unadulterated raw materials.

The refinement of these raw materials and their transformation into perfume compositions marked the beginning of his work with natural fragrances he had obtained himself. Alp Veliogulliari thus began by creating perfumes for his own use.

Due to his olfactory understanding of the interplay of different fragrances and his artisanal approach, Alp Veliogulliari succeeded in turning his passion into a business and launching the Katana brand.

As a perfume maker, he also collaborated with perfumers such as Joseph DeLapp (a.k.a. JK DeLapp) and Ahmed Mostafa, offering them access to his raw materials to develop further fragrances for Katana.
