Unicorn milk in the moonlight: the "swamp vivarium" melody from Hogwarts Legacy
In a forum post, someone writes about you - a fragrance that is supposed to smell like milk and unicorns. I'm not really taken with this description, and yet my interest is somehow piqued. I call up your Parfumo entry and read through a few statements and reviews. There is always talk of milk, coconuts and unicorns. You're supposed to be magical, but what does magic smell like?

I like milk, but I can't imagine anything with a milk scent.

I am averse to coconut because I associate it with overly sweet bounty and tropicalized, artificial-smelling deodorants and body lotions.

Last but not least, the frequently mentioned symbol of a "unicorn" should actually put me off the most. I can't help but think of the colors pink and silver, glitter in excess, sticky sweetness and little girls playing with their "My Little Pony" plush unicorn and not wanting to take off their fancy dress tutu with the accompanying fairy wings. The unicorn hype of recent years has probably contributed to this kitsch being the first thing that comes to mind (the inevitable mugs, pencil cases, T-shirts... with inscriptions such as "Unicorn Princess", "Always be a unicorn", "Unicorns are real" - you get what I mean).

However, nowhere here have you been described as overly cute or associated with pink princesses. So apparently you're not a cheesy girly scent - but then what are you? Grandma's rice pudding, unicorns under coconut palms...
For the life of me, I can't imagine what you are and decide to see for myself. A few days later, two milliliters of unicorn milk arrive in my letterbox. When I apply you for the first time, I finally begin to understand.

_____

You are creamy to me. As creamy as a dessert, like a creamy, warm rice pudding or a cremé brûlée, even if you don't smell like it. Does that make sense?
You are also sweet, but your sweetness is tempered and at one with your creaminess. You are not sticky or even sugary. "Sweet" is not an attribute that pops into my head as soon as I smell you, but something that I attribute to you when I consciously think about it.

I can understand the often-read coconut association, but I don't think I would have associated you with it myself. The interplay of your notes is somehow reminiscent of coconut, but it's not quite there - very difficult to describe.

For me, you are gentle and at peace with yourself, quiet and mysterious.

For me you are warm and soft, your sillage is a cozy blanket that warms on cold days.

For me, you are a soul comforter that caresses the heart and envelops me in security.
Your name is Blanche Bête, "the white animal".
Of course. You are a unicorn, now I finally understand.
I was just thinking all wrong at first. You're neither pink nor kitschy nor girly - no, you're the real animal creature from the mythical world, shrouded in legend, alive and warm under your fur. I see you in my mind's eye, standing in a forest clearing at night, your white form illuminated by the moonlight.

At this point, I would like to refer back to Harry Potter, because I imagine you exactly as J.K. Rowling describes the unicorn: as the incredibly pure, rare and shy creature with the silvery blood that dark figures seek out because it has healing and life-prolonging powers. You live in dark and enchanted forests, all too rarely showing yourself to humans. Those who do get to see you are said to be indescribably lucky.

I suspect there won't be many people here who have played "Hogwarts Legacy". The game immerses you in the magical world of the Harry Potter universe. In the course of the story, you can rescue various magical creatures from poachers and keep them in different vivariums. Since unicorns are mysterious creatures that live in dark forests despite their bright selves, it makes sense to have them move into the "swamp vivarium", a mystical, dark place where it is always night.

A melancholy, mysterious and at the same time comforting melody can be heard at all times in this vivarium, which I have since inextricably linked with the unicorns that I let move in there. For me, this melody and the whole atmosphere of a shimmering, delicate unicorn in the midst of the moonlit gloom describes this fragrance perfectly.
If you're interested, take a listen and let it work its magic on you:

Thanks to Louise Turner for this beautiful creation. I'm usually more of a statement type, but "Blanche Bête" inspired me to write a longer commentary for once. I couldn't have done justice to this fragrance in a statement: although I find it an absolute fall/winter cozy that warms you from the inside and somehow fills you with happiness, it also has this magical and mysterious touch that makes it extraordinary.

The (magical) perfection in a bottle
At first I wanted to write a statement, but no matter how many times I rewrote it: 140 characters just don't do this fragrance justice.

Blanche Bête is a 100 out of 10 for me.
Do you know this? You meet someone and you feel like you've known them forever? That's how I felt with this fragrance. It was love-at-first-sniff, but at first I thought: "does it just remind me of another fragrance?" Maybe a grown-up version of my signature since 2006 Kenzo Amour ? Sure, you could say they share the light rice pudding vibe but there is so much more to Blanche Bête
It is strong yet gentle at the same time. Present but restrained. Quiet but somehow loud too.

For some, it may only smell of coconut, but I understand where this association comes from. At a birthday party, a friend really wanted to know what the scented candle was called, but it turned out to be an ordinary candle and it smelled like Blanche Bête.
But I smell much more, the milky, the subtle tuberose, vanilla and tonka and a minimal incense note...everything is just perfectly balanced.

The fragrance is like coming home, feeling absolutely safe, but at the same time it gives me a certain strength. It touches me in a way that few fragrances have managed to do so far.

I have always said I would never spend over €200 on a perfume, but Blanche Bête is (for me) worth every penny, the longevity and sillage are wonderful without being overwhelming.

Hats off Louise Turner, you have created a masterpiece:
Blanche Bête is like a unicorn, simply MAGICAL

Far far away
I have blindly and naively ordered a fragrance bottling of Blanche Bête - Eau de Peau in a sharing without having tested the fragrance before. Mistake, very big mistake.
My first impression after the fragrance mail had arrived and I had sprayed the fragrance on my wrists: Boah, is the sweet!
A concentrated charge of cotton candy, marshmallows, candied apples, roasted almonds (without the smoke) and amaretto cherries literally slayed me: sticky, sweet and way too gourmandig.
So I neither wanted to smell nor could I inhale the scent without getting a headache.
So scrubbing was announced, which sounds easier than it was in execution, because the fragrance has an extreme durability. The addition "Eau de Peau", made the fragrance all honor: He literally connected with my skin, without that one got rid of him quickly.
In addition, the fragrance has a silage to the country far-far-away. He radiates at least five meters in all directions: All rooms of my apartment smelled of the fragrance, although I had sprayed him only once on each wrist.
Damn! What to do, said Zeus?
After a quick Google search, I knew there were only two ways to get the scent off my skin: either sprinkle coffee powder on the scented areas for ten minutes or citric acid. I decided on the latter - with success.
Whew! Once again, I was lucky.
Needless to say, the fragrance will not soak in with me.

No Raffaelo
Yesterday I wrote a short statement. But unfortunately I can't manage with the statements. There is too little space and I have to change the text x times to accommodate everything. Or write myself a response.
Or write a - short - review and delete the statement.
The fragrance is creamy and powdery for me. I associate him not with Raffaelo (as so many others here) but rather with Nivea cream. In the first hour, the fragrance unfortunately had something about it that totally bothered me. I can't say what, unfortunately, but it wafted up my nose like waves. Then it was gone. I found myself sniffing my wrist more and more. I do like the scent. And how! I still don't get a coconut but I like the overall composition. The Nivea is now but rather a sunscreen.
Also the arms of my home sweaters are always generously with my fillings
prepared, because the next morning is then the scent impression strongest. So also now. Freshly crawled out of bed and me a recovered nose I can finally smell them, the coconut of which all speak, but according to the fragrance pyramid is not included at all.
I would not classify the fragrance as gourmand and actually rather wear in the summer than now. He comes in any case on the watch list. Now he seems to be sold out anyway.

Temporary love
Blanche Bete is a really exceptionally beautiful fragrance whose components I can perceive almost completely.
The coconut note that some describe is only very subtle for me.
It starts off very milky and dense. The sweetness of the tuberose and jasmine are also immediately noticeable. Vanilla and cocoa round off the whole thing for me.
Although it smells wonderful on my skin, it does not develop any fragrance at all.

It is definitely a fragrance that I have never smelled before.
I was madly in love with it for about a month, as it really gives you a mystical, magical fairytale vibe. Wonderfully clean, playful and fluffy.
Sillage and longevity are absolutely great for me.

BUT: In the long run, it was just too unexciting for me personally. But somehow too sweet. Too dense. Wanting too much instead of just being casual.
I guess I'm just not a fluffy unicorn. Would like a bit more tension. Less sweet. More complexity. More individuality.
That's the only reason the fragrance didn't make it into my collection. Everything else about it is just boringly perfect (for me).

Creamy, soft, sweet illusion of coconut. Yves Rocher's coconut all grown up and classy. Linear. Not sure yet if worth this price though.

I get tuberose, jasmine, cream, "hairspray". Somewhat pretty but the soft projection + "hairspray" feel was not appealing to me.

To me Blanche Bete is an almond. It makes me think of a vintage doll, with a sweet scent and a plastic feel. Shrill yet tender fragrance!
