Very Expensive Bug Spray
Unfortunately, Past & Present: Vietnam seems to me to be a very imbalanced and poorly composed fragrance. The citronellol scent is SO strong that it completely overwhelms the other notes, which is tragic because there are some seriously high-quality ingredients in this juice that deserve to be enjoyed. Mathew mentioned in a private conversation that the Turkish rose otto he used has a high concentration of citronellol. Between this and the three other rose ingredients, the citronella candle / bug spray note is simply way too overbearing.

Could there have been a batch error due to a volume miscalculation or slip of the hand? Probably not. Maybe it's intended to smell like this and I'm just particularly sensitive to this compound? I don't know. Either way, it was enough to irritate my skin and give me a burning sensation in my nasal passages. I wore it twice, for about 6-7 hours each time, and it didn't transform into something more pleasant or reveal subtler notes as it dried down either -- the citronellol clung to my skin and clothes and was unrelenting.

I have sampled other Lost Tribe fragrances that I've enjoyed, but this one was a tragic whiff and miss. Hoping to find another Lost Tribe perfume that I really enjoy so that I can rectify my disappointment with this particular fragrance. Onward and upward.

4 phases of roses
Past present vietnam is really good blend of rose and oud . You cane pick out different rose as scent evolves with some smoky oud , and every time is getting better and better with hints of salty ambergris . Roses in this ones are next level.most slept scent of lost tribe . And quality of roses what Matthew is using and how scent shows every rose in different aspect is from another world.

The Smell of East Africa trapped in a Bottle
Clean roses, a salted; aquatic, fresh air. Loud drum music and singing rings through your ears, stepping outside to a market in the streets of Kenya. You walk down the market road, incense, light wafts of waxy smoke mix with the smell of spices. It has just rained and the sun comes out, a slight earthiness combined with the dampened bundles of wood being sold; and the oud gets closer. The true smell of a memory captured in scent, the bustling streets of East Africa: Burning incense, rose, woods, earthy ground, and light smoky spices all combined.

An underrated Lost Tribe Gem: Past and Present Vietnam (15ml)
I sampled this in October of last year and fell in love with this rose oud combination. Fast forward to January of this year and I have a bottle. It sat without being sprayed more than I like to leave bottles on the bench so I gave it a whirl, which left me a little sad because I had really shifted on how I felt about it.

The opening of this is incredibly citronellol heavy and honestly, quite abrasive. As it dries down the rose does shine, but unfortunately I still am a bit turned off. The ambergris gives me an almost soy sauce like saltiness and it really does not work well with me.

The rating maybe confusing as it is quite high based on my more recent experience with it before deciding to sell. I think some folk will be able to love this the way it should, it just does not work with my nose. Also, the value here is great IMO. Aftermarket for a 15ml is $200 or less which is great, especially when you look at the amazing materials Matt used here. I really wanted this to work for me

Salty Rose at Dawn
Imagine a spring morning on the Vietnamese coast at sunrise: The air is clear and slightly salty, the ground still cool from the night dew. In a quiet courtyard, there is a bowl of freshly cut roses, clean and almost silky in scent. In the background, bright wood glimmers in the warming sun, while a subtle, calm depth lingers in the air. No smoke, no heaviness, but a serene, cultivated tranquility. It is exactly this tension between purity, mineral freshness, and warm, well-groomed elegance that the fragrance captures.

Past & Present Vietnam opens with a clean, soapy rose that immediately defines the character of the scent. The rose appears elegant and refined, neither sweet nor jammy, and is combined with a distinctly noticeable salty ambergris note that adds a mineral, slightly maritime freshness. As the fragrance develops, it becomes softer and warmer, transitioning into a creamy-woody base dominated by sandalwood. A subtle, well-integrated oud provides additional depth without becoming dark or smoky.

On my skin, Past & Present Vietnam lasts all day. The sillage is distinctly noticeable in the first hours with clear, confident projection and gradually becomes quieter over time, yet remains a consistently perceptible aura until the end of the day.

Salty rose cream with a beautiful rose tone. The rose itself is truly well done. Respect for the quality, but it's not really my thing.
