Favourite Sin Maison Jaxob 2018

I was not vibing too much with Philosopher's Veil nor Poet's Potion or Forbidden Sketch , so I was already thinking I was done with this brand. Much to my surprise, I do like this one a lot! It's true that the rose occupies a central part of it, but it's turkish rose so I can't ever complain. The way it smells different from the other roses still manages to surprise me: it's so delicate, even when intense, and it blends in with spices in a wonderful way...
While I do not think this perfume per se smells sinful (c'mon, I've tested Hierophilia), it smells great anyway! Plum skin, the same kind that I found in I Can Never Say Goodbye , but mixed with cardamom coffee - the not gourmand type! This is true coffee, finally! Softly booze and cocoa undertones, a drop of myrrh. While not sinful, it's a pleasure for my senses.

This is a dangerously opulent frag. Prone to excess in most regards. But subtle, not for the faint of heart, and quite striking. Bold, rich, heavy. Pairs well with swagger. If you have doubts about whether you should, it will be the wrong choice.

It opens like a bomb and is not necessarily polite about it, pepper, frankincense, styrax and citrusy cardamom on open. The styrax helping give you something a bit dirtier. The frankincense also not the cleanest. This is going to play on both sides a lot, and beautifully.

Rose is the mainstay and is accompanied by powdery tones. The rose is sharp and metallic, but simultaneously jammy. It's powerful and becomes the focus. Sweetness of myrrh balances this, with the run, but there is also a sour streak under it, drawing it back a touch. For a brief period it was slightly too sweet for my taste. Rose is going to be the main theme here on out, until late to the dry down when we regress to spicy resins overall.

I mostly got coffee, tea, spices, and a bit of rum. Good thing: tonka is not overbearing. That is a massive win, in my opinion. It is generally a pleasant spiced dark gourmand but the rose is quite strong already in the opening and doesn't let up, it takes away from the enjoyment a bit. If you are familiar with Chai Eau de Parfum , they are in the same family, in my opinion, but rose here is a lot stronger and cocoa is a lot weaker.

I absolutely adore florals as a man with rose and jasmine being in the forefront. But not just any rose… not the dewy, green, fresh with thorns. I am a sucker for jammy, red, honeyed, meaty, fruity and sparkly citric textured absolute. A bottled perfection in my eyes.

It opens up bold, opulent and unapologetic. It hits your skin like a nuclear bomb. Like with other MJ creations, we have an amazing top note of cooling cardamom with fruity rose in the centre. The rose is present top to bottom and is being enveloped by different nuances. It is anchored and its power never goes away (pretty spectacular knowing that rose absolute doesn’t last long on skin). It is in the realms of oud satin mood extrait which is my most favourite perfume of all time. Jammy, uplifting, nuclear, meaty whilst radiating soft velvety aroma.

It begins to morph with a strong black assam tea, slightly bitter turkish brewed coffee and booziness - the latter two being much less pronounced to my nose. The plumminess comes out more - succulent, velvety, nectarous and inky. The cardamom intesifies (picture cardamom seeds that already have a spicy cooling black tea nuance mixed with bitter black tea) very reminiscent of Intoxicated by Killian. Dry frankincense (not churchy) and sweet drops of dark brooding myrrh rise from underneath making this scent extremely diffusive and spiritual adding citric edge - I believe Jacob picked Ethiopian variety thanks to the inspiration he drew from his travels through the country.

Ultimately, the scent profile is borderline fruity incense gourmand, get that bianco latte and sugary crap out of your head. This is perfume for a well dressed elegant person. Someone who is not afraid to receive compliments and announce themselves before entering the room. It may come across more feminine, however the bitter booziness and earthiness keep it from being cloying and perfectly suitable for a man. Lasts about 8h on skin with above arms length projection for 2-3 hours.

Sits in my top 5 rose perfumes. I could bathe in this. The price is amazing too and comes with presentation that is arguably the best in the artisanal world of perfumery. It ignites my brain and flushes it with serotonin - this perfume brings calmness, relaxation and spiritual relief.

The name suits it well. From the moment I spray this, I am being transported into a forest, resins are being burnt, they take over your senses, but somebody decided to prepare indian tea in the background with some manuka honey in it. Unbelievable quality. there are fragrances twice as expensive that don’t scratch the surface of how deep and layered this is. Saving for a full bottle, or a split… i need this in my life
