I wish this smelled like the picture on the bottle looks!
When I got my decant of Arashi no Umi, I was hoping to love this because the graphic on the bottle is so freaking adorable. Is it a cat? Is it a bear? I want to visit it in its tiny room and get a wee little snow cone!
Well, the scent is good, too, but not great enough for me to justify getting one of those cute bottles.
It starts out quite fruity and fresh with peach and green apple, reminiscent of a nice shampoo. Underneath them lies is a creamy, musky base. The creaminess is pretty nice, but there is also an undertone of scratchy woods that I could have done without. Not any specific woods, just that modern woodsy niche base, if you know you know.
I saw online that some people find this similar to Chanel Chance Eau Tendre, and even though I had not thought of that on my own, I can see what they mean! The combination of rose and jasmine, apple/quice (rather similar fruit) and clean musk is related in both fragrances. Arashi no Umi feels more unisex though, due to the woodsy base and because the florals are toned down.
I think this would work best as a spring and summer fragrance. It's fresh and fruity, and I also liked it better on my skin than when it transfered to my clothes while testing. If you like musky fruit shampoo scents and don't mind a hint of scratchiness, it's certainly worth a try.
