Ruh opens with an overpoweringly narcotic blast of saffron. It smells golden and slightly overwhelming, like falling backwards into cold summer water. I think most people think of saffron as a cold weather fragrance, but Ruh has an almost aquatic transparency and dewiness: saffron, roses, sunlit water. I kept expecting the sweetness to turn sticky or cloying as it dried down, but instead it faded into saffron and clean musk, keeping the sweet intensity of the saffron but becoming softer and closer to the skin.
