days of the future past
Thierry Mugler has left a permanent mark in both, the couture and the perfume industry. Idiosyncratically sumptuous aesthetics, bitch-fatale attitude, eye catching fashion narrative. The same boldness in their backbone, with elements of elegance, opulence and campiness are omnipresent in his mygler circle fragrance universe.
Almost all his perfumes are ultra successful in sales and the way they influenced pop culture/ fragrance world upon their release and specifically because of this , they have created a mass appealing effect which i find reductive...
In 2008, the Miroir-Miroir collection was introduced as a second attempt of a more artistic, aimed towards clients maybe of a more acquired taste profile.4 years later Moiroir des Majestes made its debut. The kitch/ plasticie mirror-oid box fells like a bad joke...Then the bottle is the exact opposite with it's vectoral design, its Guerlainesque calligraphy containing a dark ambery liquid.
This is a perfume of great importance to the house. First of all, it doesn't fill like a Mugler creation. It is more elevated than everything I've tested from the entire Mugler universe, thous far.I ve been wearing this almost all week, everyday and I ve know it since I started using it, which is 2020, 12 years after its release.
It has a very harsh, but bearable and i have to admit very likable opening. It is also a bit disorientating because of a very pronounced retro vibe it exudes, grabbing and throwing you back in time...like a tamed younger sister of the Elizabeth Taylor's perfume collection...During the first 5 minutes i get a tremendous dose of labdanum (the amber accord from the base) that quickly rests into the back. Then the next couple of hours an indolic tango between the prominent bright orange blossom and the supporting green jasmine is all that happens, but it is so privately narcotic. Then it all turns into amber, a resinous myrrh like amber.
It is lovely, long lasting with medium sillage. A show-stopper for the wearer, an intimate show that is not intended for an audience....
I cannot forget to mention that in the beginning it conjured diabolical fractions of La Couche du Diable SL

Extraordinare
Miroir des Majestes is excellently blended spice-woody + floral fragrance. Longevity is about 6-8 hours on my skin in the tropical climate condition.
White florals coming up all the time discreetly but strong enough to be noticed and to give a good mood of feminine scent.
Presence of oud is gentle and well blended as not to be the first note you will smell and as not to be noticed all the time as the dominant one.
Miroir des Majestes has no typical TM dry down. The warm scent of amber keeps dry down present a long time giving the peace and sophistication to this story.
Definitely has similarity to Casamorati 1888.

A Mirror and Its Reflection
Fine needle pricks in my nose hint at the spices. Somewhat bitter and masculine in tone, but nonetheless or perhaps precisely because of that (?) very fine and noble. Almost ethereal-oily, the first wafts teasingly settle in my nose and awaken my curiosity. Minutes later, I have the impression that these spices are dipped in fine honey or that honey is poured over them. Instantly, the masculine bitter note from the beginning recedes, but never completely disappears. A few blinks later, jasmine and orange notes come into play, clearly perceptible and very much in harmony with the preceding components. Leather and amber envelop everything in soft, sensual, and almost cuddly veils. In the background, a gentle vibration reminiscent of Fath de Fath approaches. So if one is willing to be patient, allowing the notes to wrap around them and vibrate in the air, a truly royal fragrance pleasure reveals itself to the tester!
I look through the mirror - le Miroir - and it is framed in gold. The surface flawless, not fogged, no cracks in the glass, simply smooth and perfect. However, the mirror does not show me my face, nor does it reveal who stands behind me. When I touch its surface, it begins to ripple. Water circles draw their paths from the point of contact to the frame, seemingly dissolving into it. This mirror appears foreign and wrong, yet I feel the urge to place not only my hand but also my face upon it. Just once more, I run a few fingers through the waves, just to be sure. Nothing happens. Cautiously, I lay my head against the surface and... I'm through. I am with my face behind the mirror. Blinded by dazzling light, I can initially see nothing. Over time, however, the pain in my eyes subsides, and I can see. I see a dream landscape tinted in golden light veils, the edges seem blurred, the colors in the center are stronger, and then there is this incredible scent! Warm, bright, sensual, ripe, and noble. Waterfalls of clear sun-colored honey, flowing more like balm, rocks and stones shaped from resin, yellow flowers rain incessantly from the golden-yellow sky, and orange silk veils hang from intricately grown trees. Birds chirping underscore the kitschy scene, hummingbirds flit like tiny fairies, wings beating in fast motion through the flowing breath that breathes a piece of paradise into it all. Far back in the center of this lively image stands a half-round tall gate. Its wings are intricately crafted and reflect the dreamlike light with a golden sheen. Temptingly and alluringly, the gate opens gently, as if inviting me to walk through it. I push my head further through the mirror and also my shoulders, when I feel a shaking. I resist. I want to go through this gate. I must! Again, this shaking, this time more forceful. I see a shadow behind me. When I look ahead again, the landscape blurs, the colors gradually fade. As if exposing a street drawing to pouring rain, the dream image from before dissolves into a single stirred mass. Disappointed, I withdraw from the mirror until I see it smooth and shiny before me again. Again, something tugs at me. This time accompanied by a reproachful voice:
"Tell me, what is wrong with you?! You've never looked at yourself in the mirror so self-absorbed," my good friend scolds me.
Oh right, we were just about to get ready for our lovely girls' night, and I had just sprayed myself with Miroir des Majestés. What happened afterward, we must have perceived totally differently...
Am I self-absorbed? - No - !
In love? - Yes - !

Amber, Oud with a few beautiful flowers....
This week, the seventh fragrance from the Miroir, Miroir! line unexpectedly fluttered its way to my home.

Miroir des Majetés (MdM) is briefly available for launch in France (only obtainable through the Mugler Online Store, which does not ship to Germany, so you need contacts with a residence in France) and will later only be available in the United Arab Emirates.

Rumor has it that a total of five new Miroirs will be released there, all featuring Oud as the centerpiece of the fragrances. Miroir des Majetés is the second fragrance in this line after Miroir des Voluptés.

MdM starts beautifully ambery, with a hint of jasmine and oud, making a stunning impression on my skin. I can also detect a few spices.
After about 15 minutes, it goes through a phase on my skin lasting about 10 minutes that I don't quite like, but I can endure it well due to its short duration:
The amber and jasmine blend into a scent that strongly reminds one of a building block of Alien (also Mugler), but at least it doesn't come across as synthetic, as is the case with Alien.

After that, the fragrance becomes really lovely:

The amber becomes very soft, velvety delicate, yet beautifully sweetly dominant (I love amber!), with the oud subtly joining in.
It is well perceivable but not upfront or even overpowering.
This is how I like oud.

Beautiful flowers join in, which ones I can't describe, but they smell noble and lush, becoming less prominent in the base in favor of the amber and oud, which I find very nice.
This development lasts for several hours, allowing one to truly enjoy the progression.

At times, MdM reminds me of Amber Oud by by Kilian, but overall it is less woody, so the oud is quieter.
However, there are parallels on my skin.

Miroir des Majetés fades out after many hours (the longevity, as always with Mugler, is very good) in a warm and soft manner.
I am enveloped in an aura of warm amber, sensually sweet, perhaps with a hint of vanilla.
The oud can still be slightly perceived, the spices are extremely subtle, and the flowers have virtually disappeared.

Like all Miroir fragrances, MdM comes in a noble solid wood box, completely covered with faceted mirrors, which also serves as a display box. (see submitted pictures).
This box is in turn housed in a golden outer packaging with a cube pattern in metallic look.
Very beautiful!

All Miroir, Miroir! bottles can be opened and refilled.

At first, it unfortunately reminds me of Angel, but it’s more balanced. A hint of Oud peeks in briefly. The orange blossom makes it almost fresh.

Beautiful spicy oriental with a not too sweet amber note. Present but not overpowering, office-friendly with good longevity. Nice!

Starts with jasmine, soft-spicy, bright leather, with a hint of oud & amber. Finely and elegantly crafted overall. So I'm pleasantly surprised!
