Sugared Lilac Petals & Lotion
I was nervously awaiting my bottle's arrival after reading others' reviews voicing how powdery this scent leans, and especially those reviews suggesting this may lean into an almost tropical direction. But I needn't have been worried!
The lilac arrives immediately, its petals soft and sweeter than expected, as if covered in a light dusting of powdered sugar or steeped in a lightly sweetened syrup. This lilac isn't reminiscent of soap, nor does it lean powdery on my skin, and while it isn't the most realistic lilac note I've come across, it is still distinctly lilac.
Supporting these light florals is a softly creamy base. This isn't an edible creaminess akin to dairy products, but something more reminiscent of a light milky lotion, or a hydrating shower milk. This creamy base is also where I can perceive the smallest hint of tiaré flowers, though it's difficult to determine where the creaminess ends and the florals begin - the descriptor officially used for this note, "Tiaré Flower Milk", is incredibly accurate to what you'll find here.
On my skin, this scent never drifts into a tropical or sunscreen-esque direction. It also never reads as powdery on my skin, nor do I find the scent white floral-forward, both aspects which I was incredibly relieved to find missing from my experience. Instead, this is a creamy floral scent that never becomes overbearing, overly heady, or otherwise difficult to wear even for somebody like myself, who generally struggles with floral scents.
Fée du Lilas performance is, in my eyes, good for what I've come to expect of Odette's work. The first time I wore this scent, I wear-tested it with one singular spray on my wrist, and I was able to notice it regularly throughout my day of working at my desk. Of course, this is by no means a "beastmode" fragrance that'll allow your scent to be perceived from across the room, but it is present, and not only when you directly look for it - even after a few hours of weartime. For me personally, this is sufficient, especially considering I did not apply this scent particularly liberally even on subsequent wears.
Overall, I think Fée du Lilas is a lovely, lilac-focused scent with just the right amount of supporting notes to elevate and support the floral. A wonderful tribute to Odette's sister.
