i went in expecting something quite gourmand due to the sugared lemon and black tea notes, but this is different! those notes are still there, but the absolute star of the show is the sandalwood. it has creamy lactonic elements similar to milky musk by parle moi de parfum, but the iris in this changes it into something delectable and intoxicating. i can sniff the similarities to gris charnel by thou who shall not be named, but this might be even better!

Can one be both classy and gaudy? Refined and excessive? Most of us, I think, would turn our nose up at the idea that what is truly kitsch and quirky could be taste curated by a high-class tongue. And yet, Lapinou is a powder puff of whimsical wonder as much as it is a gilded tea leaf. In essence, it’s the fifth chapter of Over the Garden Wall (Mad Love), wherein an affluent man named Quincy Endicott, baron of the successful enterprise “Endicott brand tea” believes he’s seeing a ghost throughout his mansion. Meanwhile, main characters and stepbrothers Greg and Wirt, along with a talking horse and a human-turned bluebird, try to figure out how and what they can steal from him to pay a ferry fare across the river. The punchline of the episode is that the assumed ghost preoccupying the rich man is actually a kindred spirit — a tea heiress who he keeps happening upon because the two independently and accidentally expanded their convoluted mansions so far from their original floor plan that they started building into one another’s homes. Lapinou has got all the whimsy of talking animals, all the libertine feel of a French creation, but all the luxuriance of an upper-class sensibility. Quiet, but one-of-a-kind. Amazing find.

An incredibly cuddly whimsical little lemony gourmand with lots of black tea and iris. The perfect signature scent for a bunny who enjoys hosting frequent tea parties and baking sugar cookies in their cottage. It’s light and airy and wears close to the skin but lasts longer than I’d originally expected based on the scent profile. A profoundly cute perfume, perfect for spring, it has a velvet ribbon note, what’s not to love?
